Season Update
Whats it called Cumbernauld replied to cokacola's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
Well done mate.you will learn as you go -
Our y/b national should be something any new start should like to take part, we are not making it easy.
-
Funny story, Many moons ago say 20/25 years.A young fancuier joined our club he was a boy of around 14. In his first year he won 4 out of the 6 y/b races. After his third win both myself and another local fancier visited his loft (Hut) no windows in complete darkness, like the old hands we were we advised the lad to open up his loft let some light on his birds. Can not recall him winning again. So this darkness has been around for sometime in one form or another

Good to here about your good season Bart, well done mate. One of the reasons for this as explained by youself is that Lanarkshire is one of the few progresive feds around, and of that you should be proud. Would like to here your thoughts on as discussed why are wee keeping our birds in the dark for a race in September (National), when it could take place much earlier in the year. As suggested above. Cheers

They are indeed falling apart, and do every year so how come we have our y/b national in two weeks and have done for years. Time to change
-
A lot in what you say, however to many old birds that have proved them selves time and time again, going missing. Though this is an alltogether different issue to our y/b problems.
-
Well thank you Freebird. To many looking at the way things are now.everything is we cant do this, they will never do that. This is our sport and we will do what we must to come up with the answers in order to secure our sport. Cheers Rab

Well done bigda,any races left

OK, I was in the Midland Fed for 25 years plus.I have just started back this year and do not have a club as yet, however putting pigeons in a van, and still going down the west coast, means i will not be joining that Fed unless there are changes. so you see I share some of you frustrations, however the words used and the manor you write is not becoming. By all means use this great site, in order to put your argement, but try not to use individuals. The more you do, then the more there returns may be enhanced. This leading to further frustrations. Keep the head you Cheers Rab Smith

Tom corries grandson, enjoy the site and your pigeons. Do not feel responsable or ansewerable to anyone over an issue voted for by the majority. Happy days Rab Snith

Yes i have picked up on this over the last few weeks.Redwhiteblue blames Tom for the Midland fed going down the West coast, dont understand. Do agree with him though he is not useing the right tone for my liking still seems more to it for me. The kind of losses discribed by Redwhiteblue are surley tipical of most feds or are they not ?

Well done tom a bit faster than i thought, hope you have good retrurns mate

I agree with you Tom,cold will tell the tail today

Yes this is true. However a change to the structure of how we race is needed. This could be done with say 50 fanciers commiting to the future of our sport in order to experiment, with what we do and when we do it. It would allow us to try at least and identify some things which will help improve the way we race and hopfully the returns. Though i do have some reservations about one loft racing, they could be used for this purpose. -
Nice clear skies however a touch on the cold side Cumbernauld

Tom, This is a good point. We do start to early, you could say this is due to the lack of time old birds racing, nationals, then young birds. I would argue whatever we do it should be all over in 8/9 weeks, and any age racing would help this. In addition to this the numbers going on the same flght path should increase, which should help returns. We have to keep an open mind in order to find answers Rab -

Spin ,what you are talking about here is the lack of strong leadership, which we have had in our sport for two long -

Chrisss, Its our sport and we can do what we will.Authorities who have the attutude we do cause we have always done, are taking our sport to the very edge of extiction. We the fancier have the power we just do not use it. -

Spin, One other thing, many fanciers are in a position to keep say 40/50 y/b for thre four months. I think this would prove expensive, thus leading to quality, rather than quantity In addition i am saying why are w on the verge of our young bird National, at a time of year that is our new monsoon season.Last week people weas being assisted from Airdrie railway station due to floods. There are many such examples of changes to our weather patern, however we still do things cause we have always done them. We need to think outside the box in order to try and change things round. Phil, We can basket seperatly, and young bird sick ness is just what it is called,i would argue they take it at a certain age which is well before 6 months. Your pigeons are coming on great Phil thanks again, will update you from time to time Cheers Rab -

pjc, The birds racing the following May could be anything from 4 months to 9 months old, just what each fancier would choice to do would be up to them as it is very much now. Any thoughts on the increases numbers going in the same direction. Any thoughts on the fact that y/bsickness, would be well behind them before the mixed in the basket
