The position is this; Anyone can make an application to "Awards for All". If you are affiliated to the RPRA, their previous rule that required a proposer and seconder for membership applications, was considered undesirable by AFA, but did not preclude the application being successful - the whole application was taken on it's merits. That rule has now been withdrawn, but AFA are now saying that the "voting" rule is undesirable. Again it doesn't preclude an application by itself, but does not go in it's favour. If all the other boxes satisfy the criteria laid down an application has every chance of being successful. Up to £10K can be requested for any item, as long as it is connected with the club, and associated with providing a facility to race pigeons for any person in the club.

If you intend using "bought in" floor grills, make sure the box dimensions are consistent.

Whitenight, you may be aware that for us all to get something out of this forum, we all need to be fully informed, and understand the full meaning of all posts. If this doesn't happen, the whole subject of the thread falls flat on it's face. Instead of making a veiled comment, that leaves everybody scratching their head, it might be useful if you took a more direct, and understandable approach. If you don't want anyone to know the basis of your post, I for one would be grateful if you didn't post to start with. And one more thing, I happen to be half English, half Welsh, and bearing in mind the rugby results this weekend, I've got good cause to be grumpy with everyone!

I happened upon a master brewer yesterday, and asked of him where I could get hold of some malting barley, as I'd heard it was good for the birds. I was hoping for a simple answer in the form of a telephone no. However, he then asked me if I was after malting barley, or malted barley, and proceeded to outline the differences - apparantly the latter goes through a process which gives it a higher sugar content. Anyway, a lot of the info went over my head, having sampled several of his excellent ales whilst watching the rugby. Can anyone let me know the benefits of each, and how you use it, as he has agreed to let me have some of each.

Asha, can I suggest you take a look at the following site - http://www.stressfreezone.co.uk. It may just help with some of your posts.

Sorry my previous post doesn't read well. Basically, was the proposal to amend the rule passed?
-
I believe the RPRA AGM took place yesterday. Has anyone heard whether the proposal to withdraw the rule that says all applications to join a club must be proposed and seconded?
-
You are just going to have to concede Vic, that on the overall performance, Utd., playing away from home, were more than a match for Milan.
-
Common sense would indicate that harky is offering £30 per individual lot, and is bidding on all six lots.
-
I appreciate that you may be aiming to keep everyone happy, but I for one disagree with "hidden bids". An auction is a vehicle by which all bids are open for everyone to see. If you don't do it this way, it becomes complicated, and raises the question whether the seller is "running up" the bids. If you want to do it by way of hidden bids do it by way of "sealed best offer bids" and call it that.

It's not only a healthy throat, but one that, during flight, can efficiently channel the intake of oxygen to the lungs. That's just my guess!
-
Presumably rare breed/endangered wild pigeons
-
No secret. At the back of the throat, there is a curtain arrangement, that ends at the bottom with a jagged edge. Basically, the arrangement, in a good throat, is a straight vertical line, without any imperfections. You have to ensure the throat is checked when the bird is not subject to any stress or this will give a false impression

Dave Allan, wrote a book (some years ago now) called The Widowhood Year, which for the widowhood flier, was the font of all knowledge. It states therein that to race or train when sun and moon are visible at the same time spells disaster. I have had no such experiences, and it wouldn't influence my decision to train/race.

You guys may be interested to know that a new Welsh Championship Club has now been formed, for any fancier located east of 3-22-0. I understand it does not aim to be affiliated to a Fed., but be an autominous organisation affiliated to the RPRA. I think that it will really take off, as this is the way forward - a flexible self governing body deciding it's own destinies. The old club/Fed structures are now out of date, and a new racing structure is required to replace it. An advert will be in BHW this week I think. Watch that space.

I was thinking of getting myself a present this Xmas (cos nobody else will :'(). I would like to get some software, that crucially can remove the background from a picture of a (surprise, surprise), pigeon,, and replace it with another background. All the good pigeon photos these days seem to be of this type, commonly with a lightning festooned sky or similar. Who can recommend a suitable software package? The best suggestion will be assured of a Thank You very much post from me!!

I have read the report on Mr H's website. However, it still does not explain in any way, shape or form, what caused the auction to end one hour early. If it was the clocks going back, how did this cause the early auction end. Birdstall have confirmed that their auction software was not to blame. I hate to see the the intelligence of good honest people on this website insulted, by way of vague non descript "explanations". What adds insult to injury is the manner in which Mr H makes offensive remarks back to people who deserve a truthful answer to questions raised.

I suggest you may benefit from reading the thread on stress management

For what it's worth, I think Asha makes some very good points. These appear to be Louella birds with very few details. They may be in super condition, but wouldn't prospective buyers want to know the basis of their "quality" certification, eg have they been trained or raced, and if so how well have they come?
-
Far from stirring things up, am I not offering the opportunity for Mr H to provide answers that will show him to be a pillar of the pigeon racing fraternity? If I were him, I would seize upon the chance.

I haven't spent much time on the site recently. I haven't therefore been able to keep abreast of Mr Hitchcock's explanation resulting from the Birdstall declaration that the software did not cause the auction to end early. Could someone please let me know the outcome. I would think it vital that we need to know the true reason for the early end, and crucially, whether Mr Hitchcock or any one of his family/friends etc made any bids (thereby potentially profiting from a premature ending of the auction). I have been prompted to enquire 'cos as a a result of registering with the auction site Mr H is now sending me lists of his birds for sale. Can someone let me know how to block e mails from a particular sender?

A law is a law, to be used as enforcement agencies see fit, regardless of the reason for it's introduction. Nobody is suggesting that Iceland is using the money for terrorism, merely using it to keep it's economy afloat. Yes, G Brown along with other world leaders have practised poor financial management, but, it would seem, a little better than Iceland's leaders.
-
I don't know what law Iceland invoked to withold British money held in Icelandic banks, but I'm sure that as soon as that matter is resolved Mr Brown will be only to willing to do the same in return.

I read recently, (maybe in the BHW) of a fancier who reduces the chlorine content in water by letting it stand for a couple of days. He has never had y/b sickness. A friend of his who previously had sickness problems tried this method with immediate success. This makes good sense, because the chlorine, which is a cleaning agent, will kill the good bacteria, therefore opening a route of infection for bad bacteria.
