do you people think that because we are breeding for faster and faster birds as the years go on that we are slowly breeding out the homing instinct?i mean surely we must be doing something with our breed as we continue to breed for performance only?anyhow something to ponder on

firstly good on you for carying on wit hyour fathers birds!! i do not know much about flying natural ec as i fly all my birds celabit.they fly to the perch...if i were you i would seperate ya young birds put hens and cocks in different section of loft ifyou can..young birds do not need any more motivation than food! could you please tell me whatr you are feeding them?as they may be to heavy you need to get the birds to feel light in the hand and boyent do so by feeding light during the first part of the week, and then heavier towards the last part of the week.Feeding is one of the most important parts of racing. Birds should be fed more protein type seeds for the short races, and more carbohydrate and fat seeds for the longer races. ....do not have feed there for them all the time to graze at but feed them after they return from exercise and only a ounce per bird..how far are you takeing them on there mid week toss's?if you can take them out to around say 80 kilometers...guesing you basket for the club on friday get them out to 80 km on tuesday and then on thurdays take em out to around40 or there abouts....

how did you pull up in the race with a velocity like that joe?we have not seen velocitis like that in about 7 years except the blow homes

i honestly cannot see why colour would make much of a difference , i think most of the crap ya hear about white birds is like some of the old wifes tales!!hear in australia we have numerous predators for our birds, in our hot dry climate.i have raced reds, whites, grizzles and all the other colours you can think of and have not had any particular colour pin pointed by hawks ect..in fact i think the darker colours stand out a bit more?anyhow it all comes down to the quality of the birds you are flying.if you are flying with average birds and have not got them conditioned exspect the hawks to have a feild day on them....other wise they will just single out the weak ones and chase them until exaustion resulting in capture....i also see many many people flying huge numbers of pigeons these days .how the bloody hell can one concentrate on all there team...?go back to flying small teams and spend the time with your birds instead of worrying about points or bloody $$$ signs

my advise is grow a back bone and go knock on there door and explain calmy that there bull sh** must cease imediatly!or you will make it very hard for them to live there life there comfortably...

goodjer,ince,abc,evens,whickam...lol a few different strains of race birds here
-
on any leg any way for me as long as it is on there.and i don't care who likes or dislikes it.i got no reason to have it a certain way as i know 90% of my birds ring numbers just by looking at the bird..only time it may casue trouble is as you say basketing night but if those who are carrying the birds cannot read a ring upside down maybe it is time for them to sit back and take it easy

crossing two completely different families of birds will result in birds throwing either way..just because you breed a sprint cross distance bird will not generally give you young that are half way some will be sprint others will be distance and some may be inbetween.!!!same as breeding dogs i spose.they will not get equell amounts of genes from both parents

lmfao how funny does wearing a loft coat make you a better fancier than a person who don't?i know with my birds i do not have to were certain clothes before they will reconise me lmao
-
over here we mostly race young birds . so each year i do not touch the young bird loft until i have finished breeding. this way it helps em get imune system up and running.and lets young get used to there suroundings.once racing starts i clean loft every third day..birds don't need us in the making fuss all the time they want to have there loft to themselfs thye need to feel comfortable and i think getting in there every day results in birds being uneccisarily stired up in there home
-
get a old coke bottel or cordial botel hang it in front of loft up the top of it make a cut about 1 inch long poke your finger through this t omake a bit of a hole and quarter fill it with a mixture of hot water and vegemight or promight will atract the flies and the go in can't get out might times the drown in mixture change mix once a wee kand fly will be under control

no matter how healthy you think your birds are as soon as racing starts and there thrown in with other flyers birds this is a breeding ground for diseases especially whe nthey get basketed say thursday night and not released until daylight saturday.sharing drinkers ect with diseased birds what do you think they pick up?i'm wit hsilverdale on this i treat my birds and treat em throughout the race season

my young bird section of my loft is 10 ft by 7 and holds 50 comfortably in narrow box perches..but my loft over here because of our extreme temperatures have fully open front as well as i have mesh under neath the perches so droppings go straight to the ground .this profides very good venitlation..so i can afford to over crowd a little

you will probably find it will be like the laws here you are still allowed to smoke in pubs/clubs ect but not near the bars at table ect is fine but not allowed to sit at bar and smoke , not allowed to smoke in resutrants ect though wich is fair enough

Thanks for the replies.i am not sure what to do but we did have a cat years ago and i do not know why but he was good with the birds.we would get up each morn and find half a dozen mice dead at back door..i did when he was a kitten sit with him in front of the loft and every time he looked like he was very interested in them i would clout him and he would not take any notice.i repeated this for a week or so and he turned out fined. will try with this fell'a and let ya's know
-
i just want it so when cat grows it knows not to touch the pigeons!
-
just wondering those of you have have cats how did you get them to not try to kill the pigeons..we have a big mouse problem here and have just purchasd a 12 week old kitten.i would love to be able to get cat to not worry about birds
-
i have tried for days now to get in.i deleted my cookies ect but still don't bloody work...sometimes it allows me in other times i can try 50 times and it won't.half the time i don't bother trying now becasue i know it will not bloody work..i think that puts a lot of people off to..be good to click on chat and have it work every time

little buddy i would not be to concerned about training birds as of yet. look into the health part of them first then . study what to feed them ect. then how to manage the loft ,then get someone to draw up plans for a nice little loft that will siut your needs and house a few birds. And get a pair of birds. do not go out and get the best pigons you can find and do Not over crowd your loft.get above average birds play about with those when you think you have them healthy and happy go purchase a few decent birds.at least that way if you can do reasonably good in managing half handy birds imagine the possibilities that would happen when you get good ones???
-
if mine start to play up like this i will only give them very minimul amount of grain until the next day. if they do the ysame they hardley get any food..they soon learn they have to enter loft to get feed
