  1. if i was there for 5 hours and never saw anything then suerly they would have made a move then? i dont have any birds left, there all on the roof! its so frustrating! never had as big a problem with birds as this.
  2. i could try that, it is quite high and im not good with heights but ill give anything a go me.
  3. its all my young birds, 12 of them. never saw a hawk around before. i live in the middle of edinburgh.
  4. would you suggest to go on the roof and get them down? wouldnt they get even more nervous?
  5. possible. so i should just wait for them to get hungry (which they will be now)? i just cant see what the problem is, makes me feel depressed! i keep thinking it wont be long till they go to another loft.
  6. ive looked everywhare, theres nothing there, not in a 20 foot radius anyway. no cat is going to wait around for 3 days is it?
  7. i wasnt making any noise except shaking the corn tin. and i was 10 feet or less from the loft. hopefully they come in soon
  8. we have had birds for over a year and never had this problem, we have had the odd bird stay out for a few days but not 12 of them at the same time. thats all my youngsters! i stood for at least 5 hours yesteday trying to get them in. could it be possible that they dont want to come in?
  9. im peed off cause i thought they would be alright because i let them sit in the trap and wonder out on to the loft roof, they came and went just fine. a few days later i let them out and they started to fly around a little more, and now they wont come in atall. got them on the landing bored lastnight but none of them went into the loft! ive changed nothing about the loft or anything like that, theres no cats as far as i know about. after almost 3 days wothout food you'd think they would be hungry by now?
  10. i let my yongsters out on friday and they still wont come in. tried shaking the corn tin a million times, whistling, leaving the loft open all day, using other birds to lure them in and still they wont come in. they just sit on the roof all day and dont move. how do i get them to come in? please help!

    Training

i have no old birds just youngsters and all mine learnt how to trap there first time out. just shook the corn tin, 1 bird worked it out the rest followed.
  12. some nice birds there
  13. i have recently got some youngsters from dovescote (all looking good!). i've had them since sunday. they have been able to see out from the aveiry from today. i would like to know when is a good time to let them out for the first time? and is there any other advice anyone can give me on letting them out?
  14. i dont want them to stick there! that wouldnt be good for the ears lol
  15. so its a theory rather than fact.
  16. apparently you can put a chalk line down and the slug wont cross it....strange
  17. its for 3 pairs. and whats the best way to keep cats away?
  18. seen loads. and it was a small stock loft. there was no intention of anything quality about the birds keptin it. not saying there werent any nice birds but if they were good enough for you to have then you can be the gudge of that
  19. youll find alot of folk use garden sheds as lofts.
  20. so any bird with a "good eyesign" is a good bird?
  21. im going to build an aveiry/freshair cage and want to know if 4ft long, 2ft deep and 2ft high would do? just for the birds to get a proper look around rather than using a sputnik
  22. there was a topic about dogs as security and i think they are the best at securing areas than anything else. unfortunatly i have a springer spaniel, not anywhare as good as a terrier! but like most people say, its easy to breack into property. and if your dog isnt trained not to take food from a stranger then they can be poisoned (not sure if i would go that far for a bird) making the dog useless.
  23. i have never cred for eyesigns, theres no reason for a "good eyesign" in my opinion. im sure there are other people who would disagree with me. as long as a bird is fast at getting home i dont care if it only has one eye!
  24. so whare do you keep your pigeons? and more to the point, how do you stop people getting into your loft?
  25. bolt locks work well for the sliding doors. padalock them shut from the inside turnover hasps from b&q work well for the main door. they cost around £25. (steel metal) if you are wanting more security then use double locks or cctv cameras. personaly a security light and a baseball bat work for me!
