  2. i only have box perches and wall mounted perches. i am thinking of extending it 4 feet then divide it into 2 x 6 foot sections, then have a small aviery on each end of the loft. can you put an aviery on the loft roof? is that a daft question???
  3. im starting to get itchy for anothe small loft. its been playing on my mind since i started building my loft. and i soppose in time i would need another one anyway. time to talk to the non feathery bird!

    dampness!

the roof is sloped, and felted. the front and back walls are put together using 2 sheets of wood. so there is a tiny gap whare the two sheets meet and the rain runs down the side of the loft and into the small gap. i will seel that off with a wood silicone.

thanks for all the help guys...i need it! i was going to seel the joints with a wood silicone. it should work ok. have already painted the outside with a oil based paint. water runs off it no problem. put straw on the floor once its dried off, (wet coz of walking on it). thanks again guys

    dampness!

    how many pairs you got?
  8. would that be a disitvantige? i take it the "single" bird would tend to stray?

    dampness!

aright valiant, im done working on the loft but the weathers not been good and the rain has been getting through the joints, need to get a wood seeler at some point and let the dampness dry up! appart from that everythings done. cant wait to get started!
  11. im new to the racing hobby and i was only gunna have 8 YB birds in it, and then if i decided to breed them then i would give the chicks away, or give one of the older birds away. if it came to it i could extend the loft. would it be ok just to have a team of young hens? or is it not possible to sex them untill they are older?

    dampness!

the weather is mad! windy and wet. i was thinking 8 birds. is it ok to just have one sex in a loft for a team? i.e a team of 10 hens?
  13. my loft is 8ft long, 4ft wide and 7 ft high. how many racing pigeons could i put in it without overcrowding? i have had a few answers from 8 to 30 birds. any suggestions?

    dampness!

so 8/10 birds would be ok? i dont have the room to extend my loft, maybe 4 feet at a squeeze!

    dampness!

once the joints are seeled up im gunna put a heater in and let it dry out for a week or so. i want to start racing pigeons. i will have them on the natural system. i was thinking 10/14 birds.

    dampness!

how badly does the damp affect pigeons? i have finnished building my loft (i need to seel the joints to spot the rain gettin in) then it will be finnished once it dries out. my loft is 8ft long, 4ft wide and 7ft high, how many birds could i get in it?
  17. so is it better to keep them in with the racers and still continue to train the racers as normal, letting the pouters out at different times? they are tall birds, how big would a pen be?
  18. it would be water proof. do you let your fancy birds and racers mate? what type of chicks do they have? (fancy birds or racing birds or a bit of both)? i have just finnished building my loft and need to put pigeons in it. waiting to get YB for the new YB season. but might get a pair of pouters in the mean time, got a spare rabbit hutch that i can use.
  19. so its best to let them fly at different times? and use racing hens/cocks for the pouters to practice on? i was thinking of getting a rabbit hutch and using that instead of my racing loft. would a rabbit hutch be ok for a pair of pouters?
  20. would the pouters be let out at the same time as the racers?
  21. so there wouldnt be any fighting, would it be better to pair the fancy pigoen with another pouter? would i need a hood to catch other pouters or would the birds use the door/sputnik to enter the loft?
  22. Hi, im new to this forum and thought i would start with a daft question. is it ok to keep say a pouter pigeon in the same loft as racing pigeons?
