The thread was moved to chit-chat as it had become nothing more than members bouncing things back at each other - The only reason it wasnt locked is because neither of the members involved had requested it, at the same time however not all members want to read 7 pages of it.

Naming birds - Some people do, i did last year with a few but in all honesty they have their ring numbers and thats enough - My own view over the last few months is that naming a bird should be for top performance pigeons or 'pets' It is really up to the individual owner though - Many studs will name all the birds often with a fancy foreign name to help market the bird. Keeping the birds clean/Bath them The birds will generally keep themselves clean if in a good enviroment with good air circulation - Even the birds poo on the floor and in its box doesnt necessarily mean its a dirty loft to the birds - If the loft gets damp or wet and as such the droppings get wet then that is whenthe cleaniness, healthiness and condition of the birds will decrease. To bath the birds you simply put a bath type item, Cat litter tray etc with water in and the birds as a rule should be eager to get in and get thereselves clean. Showing affection - Personally i try to show them enough attention and give enough affection to bond them to the loft and myself and make sure they have a happy home that they want to be in (you wouldnt want to live with a grumpy man who shouts and stomps about, would you?) With regards to affection though with me its a balance as i dont want to get attached to much as its an even bigger sickener when you loose them. Favourite bird I think most will have a favourite bird, its basically just what takes peoples fancy although a winner and good consistent bird is more likely to be a favourite. Well done Alan. The level of enquiries has been bonkers on them and yes agree you prob wouldnt be able to breed them quick enough to meet requirements. We sold two for the Phoebe sale and plan to gift four to people who have asked but thats it. The latebreds will all go to Steve's as flying out stock.

We have used it for years Phil and every roll has been exceptional quality. Although you cant see the second flight all that well - The one roll was used to build both Flights and along with the wood coming from a local fancier both the flights cost a total of £25 to make (May regret saying that when the loft is ebayed off lol)

If you are prepared to travel a little way to save some money then a company called Moncasters at Louth is very very good - I bought a roll of galvanised mesh (Cant remember the gauge but think inch x inch) for £20 - It was one of there seconds all that was wrong with it was the first four inches of the roll hadnt galvansied properly with it. The roll has built me two stock flights this season and secured a 10ft wooden fence to keep the dog in so cant complain at that.

If you have a bakers near you (Curtis especially) ask them for one of the cake trays they make fantastic baths, they may try and charge a couple of £ but its better than paying over the odds. Maybe even one of the trays from the van sales department where you work - I used to have loads of them here but gave away over time.
