hi how much did you pay and was it that you didnt like about the bird :-/
  3. hi bruno yes 50/50 normal genes are inherited from sire and dam.but genes of one special part of the cell comes from the dam that being the organelle.mitochondrion.Mitochondria DNA comes solely from the dam there is no recombination of the genes from both parents.breeding from one generation to another through normal reassortment of parental genes will achieve no rapid change in performance of the resultant offspring. Change only occures by mutation and only very slowley, any difference between female lines that arise through chance mutation will be persistant and passed on from mother to daughter-and from mother to son, though the sons will not be able to pass those traits to their offspring. So differences in mitochondrial DNA will be identified in the verious breeds of pigeons and can be used as markers for speed and endurance these may have come about as a mutation,or buy selective breeding. However the hen that lays the golden egg may have the mitochondrial DNA mutation, and may well breed winners. So if you find it first let me have a daughter, and if i find it first ill keep it to myself ;D
  4. THE ABILITY TO PRODUCE MITOCHONDRIA IS PASSED ON FROM THE MATERNAL LINE.so it would be for me a big plus if the hen had a history that produced winners or good perfomers. It would be one factor that would sway me to part with money, :-/
  5. no its hav eye spelt dis rite ( dis ) get to der bac ov der class yer eejit ;D
  6. marvolus ting an edjicaition makes ya ed swell but ya still keep your balance ;D
  7. very interesting lads breeds within breeds :-/or different traits within the same breed.this can be seen in other animals that have been selectively bred for a use. American standardbred horses have two types trotter and pacer.with a number of common ancestors. other types of horse with different gaits.(classed as breeds) .Sizes of race horse differ, sprinter, stayer, flat racer, jumper, all have common ancestors but all developed for a specific job.Show greyhounds, racing greyhounds, different in size and running ability but classed as greyhounds. So it apeers that animals of a breed have common ancestors but through selective breeding can become a type or breed for classification or use.and the more selective they are bred the bigger the change from the original ancestors. so are they a breed or a type ? natural selection has produced breeds over millions of years. man has developed and domesticaited animals over a shorter time and called them breeds.what ever the roller tippler or tumbler is, it is man developed and great to admire and watch, :)man the greatest breed on earth :-/

  12. everything looks top wac , wac ;D
  13. Being new to pigeons and coming from a family of horsemen,i can only tell you of the way certain substances work on horses.and given the differences in the way they digest and use food,i could be miles away on how it works on pigeons. What i will tell you that once you start to unbalance the feed by adding this and that you start to dilute the normal properties that they would obtain from a tried and tested feedmix worked out by nutritionalists.Such things as buffering, glycogen loading, pH balance, have all been used with some sucess if only minimal. It is a very interesting part of performance developement the use of food as energy, and how it may be changed for the good. But i think that the amonts of additives are boarderline as to helping or detracting from performance. Most supliments usualy end up in the muck heap.and excess protien ends up causing horses to flush thier kidneys with an higher intake of water to get rid of it, thus resulting in an inbalance . All I can tell you ,that the best reasurch material has always come out of america, canada and australia, but with pigeons it may be mainland europe :-/
  14. hi smart bird are you sure you cant keep the odd few as pets. Seems a shame :-/
  15. hi just looking at your webb site youve put a lot of time and effort into this sport so it must be a real upset to dismantle all youve put together as a new starter i can see the scale of your work .good luck for the future

    would u pay?

D.I.Y. PIGEON PIE IN THE SKY. 60,000 fanciers in the country sell one bird each for A tenner £600,000 donated, thats a start .Find your self some backers, researchers, a program writer and a promoter to sell the idea and get the r p r a to get some funding and do a pigeon program that is true to life including its historical origins, back yard lofts and its new mordern one loft format. Some one out there must be able to make a better job than that million dollar pigeon programe yes it was a start, but not going to grab the publics interest. How about even a sit com ONE FLEW OVER THE PIGEON NEST staring Alf,and Eagleowl, FAMILY AT WAR staring Albear, and Timbara, and THE BILL staring Dovescot and Cocxy or should that be MIDSUMER MURDERS. ;D
  18. wounderful advice nice to read first thing in the morning on a dull grey day going out know to look at my pigeons

    would u pay?

PIGEON PIE IN THE SKY ,grabing the the publics interest is the key to any sucssesful tv.Viewing figures are what they are interested in.If the public could win money on betting on a number of races culminnating in a big pool like the irish sweepstake was to horse racing that would get the general public on board ,bookmakers find they could make money that gets the money men on board,Back ground information on the birds the sport and breeding, that drags in the people from pigeon racing. This intern brings in people that may not normaly have an idea what pigeon racing is all about as new recruits.Selling the sport this way for some would be the way forward but for others it would detract from the fun pastime that it is.YES IT WOULD BE NICE TO SE SOMETHING ON MAIN STREEM TV.

  22. hi in horse racing they feed oil as a lipid(fat) can be veg or soya at 1pt per day this is split into three feeds and is equal to 3 lbs of oats in energy value.the reason is that as a horse gets fitter he tends to eat less so they use oil to put a layer of fat that will be used as an imediate energy source .thus helping him to work and keep condition on.High protein can have an adverse afect on a horse that can lead to muscles tying up .Interval training conditions the horse to work with or without oxygen and developes the all important red blood cell count. heat disapation and muscle mass are big factors thats why some race horses apeer lean ie long distance or big, sprinters as i am new to pigeon racing i am interested if there is a noticable mark in the builds between the different familys ? and thier diets.
  23. Well you are all getting in a twist,Albear feels hes right to protect the integrity of the site .Timbaras friends have come to support.Somewhere in all of this there are some pigeons that are looking for a new home.As a new member and just starting up it all makes for interesting reading if not a bit offputting.I check the bird sales quite alot, and have noticed that some people are in it for the love of the sport and some to make a quick buck and are full time dealers that is thier perogative. It is a wounderful webb site that you all have got for your sport and without all your contributions ,People like me would lack the chance to collect important information. As far as sorting the wheat from the chaf as regards who to deal and not to deal with, it is down to the individual.Yes protection is one thing but individual choice is another. Not everyones head buttons up at the back so lighten up.All the best and a great webb site youve all got together
  24. great reading just the sort of stuff a new fancier can dream off .Bit unfair being banned becuse your to good.thats like geting stuffed at football and asking for your ball back. :'( :'( :-/
