My fantail cock treads the female a lot and nothing has come of it. Does that mean I have an infertile cock?
-
Thanks, do i need to worry about putting them back in the same way up as i took them out, or does it not matter?
-
Why do peanuts have to be microwaved and not their usual bird seed mixture? I would have thought that bird seed would have a certain amount of bacteria in it as well, does it? :)

How do i know if my pigeon eggs are fertile or not? Can anyone help me on this one?

Just to let you all know that our Indian fantail has started collecting nesting material, ( which i've never seen them do that before ) so we are keeping our fingers crossed. But, i've heard that the Indian fantails that we have are not very good parents. They are a pair of saddlebacks. Has anyone else heard this or heard of this before. :-/

we also have a laying problem with our Indian fantails, the male has been on top of the female a few times but, sadly, no eggs. Guess we'll have to keep hoping....

How long b4 I can let them out?

Oh so thats how you do it. thanks for the feedback, every bit of information is most helpful and much appreciated. -
Hi, I'm never away from the loft at the moment as the young birds are getting a bit confused at the moment getting back into their own box. mind you they are at the weaning stage so they will eventually find their own roosting spots soon. What happens when a bird decides to nest on the ground and their young are growing up just running around, how do they learn to fly when they don't have to fly up n down to a nesting box? can someone enlighten me on this?

Thanx, we found the thread about the indian fantails, about someone looking to buy them, I have gotten too attached to ours that it is difficult to let them go, we only have the one pair and i love them to bits. -

How long do you keep an adult bird in for when he is new to your loft? He used to live just up the road from us and was used to getting out, I personally think we are too close to his origonal home and might end up back there. Do you think we will have to pair him up with a female and let him have eggs first? -
How much should I feed my birds
chickadee replied to Iqbal's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
Hi, I am fairly new to the pigeon world and would like to ask a question, is peanuts good for pigeons? I normaly give them a mixture of cut corn, wheat, conditioning seed and some young bird mix, but if you give them peanuts they'll do anything for you. some of them have started flying down to the back door as i come out in the morning looking for some peanuts. -
HI, we are having problems with our pouters, they are always laying eggs but they never seem to be fertile. I felt so sorry for them the last time that we put someone elses egg under them and now they have a beautiful white foster chick, they don't seem to mind the fact that they are a different colour from their chick.

How much should I feed my birds
chickadee replied to Iqbal's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
we feed our birds once a day, we put seed in the feeder in the loft and the ones that go outside the loft get seed at the feeding station in the garden which they share with the hens and are constantly in and out the loft all day feeding their young, the feeders are always empty next day in the loft.
