  1. i work offshore about 135 miles east of montrose, just wondering how long it is before we see the the lost pigeons start to appear, its a shame as the helicopter companies, bristows, bond and chc helicopters dont allow pigeons in the aircraft now ( to the central field ) so getting the birds to the beach if you catch them is getting more difficult, we now have to ask the skippers of supply and standby vessels if they will take the birds in with them & release on the beach giving them a sporting chance? otherwise im afraid they fly around untill they drop basically, i think our various unions should maybe be lobbying the helicopter companies and try pesuading them to be a little more flexible towards the transporting of pigeons to the beach?? john

  5. for me its just where i seem to be at ease and the stresses of the world forgotten, nothing like it in the loft with the birds, watching them out flying n pottering around the garden, and when you see the the birds coming out of the sky with the wings back from a race regardless whether the bird is 1st or last what a feeling of satisfaction it gives me, john

  17. yes its pretty much the same here birds flighty as hell slightest thing & they were going off it, i havent even cleaned the lofts since saturday just leaving them in peace only checking that they were ok n feeding them, thats 3 i have had taken in two weeks, hughie next door has one gone missing and jimmy a few doors up the street had one taken about a week n a half ago we were wondering if it was the same hawk if so it wont kill another round here, what many ppl dont see is the aftermath of an attach by a raptor, the birds coming off eggs & youngsters and just how it often affects the form of the doo it can in many cases mess the birds up the whole season ?? john
  18. had them out today for the first time since the attack, they flew well & trapped well enough but they are still a bit on the flighty side, cheers
  19. had my birds many years now, and like most fanciers had some set backs which have made me consider calling it a day, but on reflection the good times out weigh the bad many times over, when in the loft im in my own wee world stress free from everything else and it just doesnt get better for me, the birds keep a smile on my face, the racing season brings the pigeon fanciers together and the crack is good taking the mick wynding each other up, the most grattifying part for me is seeing my grandson taking an interest in the birds hopefully he will be next to keep the birds in the family john

    Lost Two Hens

pity you didnt ask on saturday as i would have been able 2 tell you?? haha the hunter became the hunted??
  25. me & my next door neighbour who races the birds to have seen this sparrow hawk for quite a while flying about wheather its been watching from a vantage point i dont know, but it was defenately about 4pm and i had come from the loft after putting in a scoop of corn went into my store for a second scoop and walked back to the loft & for the lads on here that know where my loft is in relation to the store they are side by side. as i approached the loft i heard a commotion thinking it was two cocks having a barney as they do?? opened the loft door and here was the sparrow hawk on top of the second youngster tearing it to pieces the hawk flew straight at me trying to get out but hit the window then flew the rest of the length of the loft as the sliding door was open allowing the birds together, the hawk bouncing off walls windows causing terror within the birds, they are still not right yet, believe me it was no longer than a minute my neighbour can vouch for this as he came back outside as i was back in trying to get the bop out of the loft??
