  1. everyone to their own whats i say my birds have been on roundabout for 6 or 7 years now as i find it easiest as i work away for 5 to 6 months of the year and it suits my sister & son as its easy to follow and simple straight forward and it has worked well for me, i let my birds raise one youngster then remove the 2nd round eggs after 5 days or so when they are starting to sit tight and split the birds and thats them on roundabout until 2 days before the longest club race and i let them have another youngster, tweek the roundabout system to suit yourself john
  2. lovely day out here on the nelson oil platform, 10 knot wind 8* and a light southerly wind at present and no rain or snow just hope it stays like this untill wednesday john

  11. not much more snow from last night couple of flurries but still nippy with n/easterly wind john
  12. pottered with the birds when i was a kid but gave them up at leaving school age , got them back in 1994 and started racing in 1995, always remember my first win which was in 1996 young bird last race from northallerton 237 miles and i took the top 5 positions,(su 96 su 1387 blue pied cock) but every race i get a buzz just seeing them folding their wings back and hitting the trap from whatever race point regardless the time or position. and i still stand out waiting on them in all weathers john

  14. good post alf, interesting im considering sending this year but as i work offshore im not always home & im concered that they wont reach the condition needed to compete, ive had a few people say that i should send but will wait n see, but its interesting to see how some get their birds conditioned for across the water john

  23. im certainly no expert on the subject, but read with great interest on this site the many treatments lotions & potions the members have tried n tested with varying success, but the one thing im pretty sure about is that " prevention is better than cure any day " john
