I just wanted to share with you an Article that I have read...said article is written by a fancier from elite club Philippine Homing Association here in the Philippines.... Mr. Ben Chua " I have never encountered any scientific explanation of eyesign. To me, the eyes may look good if it has all the rings present as the expert would put it. But it should not be the basis for selecting a bird whether for breeding or for racing. If you will be misguided by eyesigns, you might only lose the years trying to breed the perfect eye and still have no results. The best is to breed birds and race them. Then take a look at the eye of your winners. And try to read some eyesign theories. Make your own hypothesis and later you may or may not find out the real answer. But just to read and base your breeding by eyesign, is nonsense. All it takes to breed a winner is not the eyes but the performance of good birds which will give you a better chance of producing a good racer. Basing it on eyesign is not only too complicated but in the real sense BASELESS. > > Another thought on eyesign. > Eyesign was conceptualized in the early years of pigeon racing by some merchants to put more value to the birds they are selling. It made them sell birds at a higher price. It has never been dealt with by science nor has it been proven by any scientific explanation about the effects of eyesign in the racing pigeon's performance. The only scientific study conducted was that of the signs of health in a pigeon. The eyes are glittering and the pigmentation is really very pronounced, when the pigeon is in tip top condition. It is a visible sign that the pigeon has enough vitality and ready to be raced or bred. > > With this article contribution of mine, I am not discouraging you to believe in eyesign. I am just cautioning you that EYESIGN is just a THEORY. And to delve into it too much might not be in essense a good premise to start your pigeon racing career. We as fanciers must concentrate more on the proper conditioning and breeding of our pigeons, and to develop some knowledge and skills in selection rather than concentrate on the EYESIGN of a pigeon. NEVER select a pigeon base on EYESIGN. To you I ask this question --- WILL YOU CULL A PROVEN BIRD WITH A BAD EYESIGN??? Definitely, NOT in a million years! > > To grade a pigeon base on eyesign is not only time consuming but also baseless. Eyesigns for me are only for merchants and for people who believe in eyesigns. Never have I heard a story that a Barcelona Champion was bred because it's parents have great eyesign. It is usually that the parents are themselves coming from a good origin of long distance birds. > > Hope this will open your mind in the THEORY... and I repeat.. THE "THEORY" OF EYESIGN, IT'S DEFINITELY NOT A FACT. BELIEVE IT OR NOT. IT'S UP TO YOU. thanks, batusai! PHILIPPINES

Hope this Article will Help.... Going light is the term given to birds that lose weight because they are ill. Most sick birds lose weight simply because they have to burn up their own body tissue to keep warm. So going light is really just a symptom - not a disease. In Budgerigars it is most likely to be caused by megabacteria. In finches and canaries it is mostly caused by a parasite called coccidia. This disease is the subject of this article. Coccidia is a very common gut parasite. It occurs in many species including poultry and pigeons. It is not common in parrots. Most adult birds can easily tolerate coccidia as their immune system has learned to cope with it. Young birds however are vulnerable because their immune system has not been well developed to cope with it. If these baby birds get infected the bug seems to be able to leave the gut and get into the bloodstream. From there it finds its way to the liver and the spleen. These two organs start to suffer (they will be greatly enlarged at post mortem). While there is enough liver left to cope these birds grow perfectly normally. But when the damage becomes to severe (generally between eight and sixteen weeks of age) the birds start to live in the seed dish but still lose weight until they die. This is a most depressing illnes because a good breeding season can suddenly turn into a disaster. There are two key ways to tackle this disease. Treating adult birds with appropriate drugs prior to the chicks hatching will reduce the level of infection for the chicks and is a very effective way to prevent the disease. We sell a pigeon product called Coxoid for this purpose or you can get one of the Sulfa drugs from your veterinary surgeon. The Sulfa drugs must be used with care to prevent infertility problems. This is not an issue with Coxoid. The more modern approach is attack the germs and stimulate the baby's immune system with a herbal nutricine. Our Flourish herbal extracts seem to be very effective in this situation with breeders reporting excellent results. Flourish is available on its own or incorporated into our Feast eggfood and ProBoost SuperMax breeder and chick stimulant. http://www.birdcare co.com/English/ Arts/Health% 20arts/G_ light/going_ light.html thanks, batusai! Fyi... Allen Samar Allen was once under the pueblo of Capul where the early Spanish Missionaries to the country settled. In 1867, the residents of Manipa-a, which was later renamed as La Granja, petitioned the Spanish Governor General for the creation of their place into a pueblo. Thus, the place was named Allen, taken from the surname of an American Governor General in the Philippines. The name Allen has been retained up to the present. Allen is strategically located and its nearness to the island of Luzon (barely 12.5 miles stretch of one hour ferry trip) through the completed Daang Maharlika (Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway) via the San Juanico Bridge to Eastern Visayas, and its accessibility to the Balicuatro towns, made the municipality the center of trade, commerce and industry, as well as the center of political, cultural, medical, athletics, judicial and tourism activities in the Balicuatro area (towns of Capul, San Antonio, San Vicente, San Isidro, Victoria, Allen and Lavezares). fyi... batusai
