thanx 4 all the feedback guys/girls the thing that annoyed me was his attitude as if i was being a pest > ok he says he dont keep/race anymore,is disabled and cant afford to send so does that mean his problem should now become my problem-i dont think so it is/was his bird so he should still send for it,what if i was a non fancier? thanks for your kind words mick(ganster) u know any stray birds will be helped if they enter my loft i also agree with owen when he says that payment should be made to the authorities-or i think they should make follow up calls to see if the stray has been collected/released the old stray hen is still here and ive decided to retire her (if she stays ?) until she goes up to that great big loft in the sky shes very tame and is in very good shape with snowy white wattles so she can go in my loft tomoro and meet the rest of my gang but who knows she may well strike off for home now that ive got attached to her :-/ i have to say not all fanciers are the same and ive even made some friends with fanciers who,ve birds ive reported but this particular fancier took the biscuit with his bad attitude-manners cost nothing anyway rant over take care debbie

just reported an old racer as i thought it may have been a favourite of somebodys only to be told to dispose of it which i wont do this pigeon was lost from france but apparently the fancier doesnt keep/race any more,is disabled and cant afford to send for it (1 excuse would have done) this pigeon has probably flown thousands of miles over the years in many races only to be discarded like this > and we wonder why fanciers get a bad name he didnt even say goodbye before putting the phone down debbie >

hi, ive had my pigeons tested and need to treat for coccidiosis but have noticed that there is a price difference between easicox and coxoid do they both do the job or is one better then the other? i know that most fanciers treat for coccidiosis so can anyone advice which is the best treatment or reccomend an alternative? thank you debbie :-/

i havnt started racing yet (maybe never will) as ive had problems with hawks and would rather keep them at home where i feel they are safer just excercising around the loft :-/ when i first started i used to take my birds on regular training tosses up to 50 ml with no problems (except for the odd one or two going missing)but one day i took my birds training and arrived home expecting to see some already on the loft or not far behind me? only 2 got home that day with others working home within the next few days and i couldnt understand why as the weather seemed ok it was only when i checked my emails that i saw that they had given a presto warning for that day (i know i should have checked my emails first that morning but the weather seemed fine ) one of my birds ended up being reported dead in essex only approx 25 mls away from me and a few others never made it home so i think the k index factor obviously has some effect on our birds homing ability (or at least my birds) what are other fanciers thoughts on this ? debbie

hi colin, if u have a large cardboard box then cut the bottom out and put it in the middle of your garden and prop it up with a stick (about 10inch high) then tie a piece of string to the bottom of the stick and run the string along the ground tightly to your back door, then put some seed right under the box and when the pigeon walks under to eat the seed u just pull the string quickly and the box will fall on top of him him just put a few seeds by the box to encourage him but not many when he gets hungry enough he will go under the box ive seen it done myself so know it works good luck and keep us posted debbie
-
i hope u get her back keep us posted debbie
-
hi colin, maybe u could try putting the seed at the back of the basket so he has to walk in to get to it if he can get food outside of the basket then he will just eat that can u post a pic of the basket u are using? u may be able to rig up a piece of string that closes the basket when/if he goes inside debbie

hi splodge have u got a shed or outbuilding that u can leave open to try and encourage it into? it will eat small seeds such as budgie seed, barley, rice etc if u left some by and a trail leading inside an open door or a cage then it may walk in allowing u to catch it? also has it got access to water as it is probably thirsty thank u for trying to help this lost racing pigeon debbie

im after ivomec 08% pour as it was reccomended by a very well known fancier/scribe ive already tried jonsons lice/mite spray, then chlorcarb, then virkon s but none worked :-/ then somebody said it may be fungal feather rot and to try carbolic soap but that doesnt seemed to have worked either? ive now been told to treat my pigeons every 28 days with ivomec until cured to break the mite/egg cycle i realise its a cattle product but i dont need a litre bottle of it debbie
-
i need to buy some 0-8% ivomec pour on to treat my birds for feather rot which im told is used on cattle but when i checked some websites it was sold in 1 litre bottles and upwards does anyone know where i can buy smaller amounts or can i buy the same strength ivomec pour on made for pigeons ? debbie

has anyone ever used virkon s in their birds bathwater,i was advised by a fancier to dip my birds into it and dip their heads under quickly but it says on the packet that it can damage their eyes, it also says it is a skin irritant but this morning i dipped my hands into a solution of it that i made up and my hands are fine, i thought i would ask some of you more experienced fanciers before (and if) i do it? debbie :-/

i dont think its the wire mesh as u can actually see little nibble lines into the wing flights and the feeders are put into the loft for about an hour when feeding then taken out as i dont want to encourage vermin overnight ive got some carbolic soap so will give that a try but if that dont work i will try and get some feathers analysed would i need an avian vet to do that or just a local vet? thanks for all your help debbie

i treated my birds for feather rot about 2 weeks ago by dipping them in chlorcarb (from aviform) as i noticed that something seemed to be chewing into the top of their wing flights and they also had some bald patches on their crop and neck areas i checked my birds a couple of days later and they were all clear of any lice/mites so i assumed that the chlorcarb had worked but i have now noticed that a few of my birds have developed new bald patches on their crops and neck i used chlorcarb as its an insecticide and i assumed that it was some sort of insect that was chewing into their feathers? im now guessing that its fungal feather rot? any advice would be great as i dont know what to do next? debbie :-/

im not suprised to hear that jimmy went out of his way to help a fancier as ive always found him to be very helpfull especially when i first got started up and he gave me advice on lost/sick pigeons well done jimmy debbie

clorcarb contains permithrin its sold by aviform on their website and is about £5 per sachet u mix it up into water and dip your birds into it i used it about a week ago and now all of my birds are completely free of all lice and mites brilliant stuff debbie ps ive heard some horror stories about people using fly sprays that contain permethrin to treat their birds i certainly wouldnt go down that road
-
can anybody give me contact details for gb 08 H 11324 just in tonight thank u debbie

ive got my chlorcarb in post today from aviform and im gonna dip my birds in the solution tmoro but when people say dip do they mean up to the neck only or do u go up to the neck and then dip their heads under the solution for a couple of seconds :-/ on the packet it just states what strength to mix it to and other safety info such as being poisonous to cats and fish etc but thats it? im thinking that if i dip their heads that it could/would damage their eyes but also i want to make sure that the treatment is effective has anyone else used chlorcarb from aviform and how did they administer it? debbie :-/
