  1. Have Been working really hard on changes last couple of months and have achieved main goals of refiting out loft to allow racing of both widowhood cocks and hens, repositioned stock loft from facing north to face west aviary still to fit, then last job if time allows if not it will be 2013 complete new front on loft to include aviary/trapping system,THEN THATS IT NO MORE
  2. Cheers my Friend Appreciated
  3. Have got to agree with you 100% there John, and also that other favourite of yours ROUTINE
  4. Hello Alex, Looking at your proposed west route for 2012,Could i suggest the following which should be of benefit to yourselfs, Appleby instead of Shap as near as the same milage and much safer No liberation point at Lancaster,so perhaps Leyland From leyland to Stafford that is a jump of Approx 70 miles Lymm is an excellent racepoint and has been very good to us in recent years Leyland to Lymm Approx 30 miles Stafford ok Perhaps Coventry instead of Cheltenham as it would hold your birds more central than cheltenham which is on the welsh border. Hope this is of some help to you,but at the end of the day its your show of hands that will decide the birds future,Good Luck for 2012,Regards Mick
  5. Happy New Year to all fellow members hope we all have our share of success in the coming season with not to many disappointments.
  6. Dry here in Moffat, first glimpse of blue sky we've seen in 2 weeks
  7. Yes I use it for washing the drinkers ,but also for the birds to drink, soft bleach you get it at the supermarket for pennies, must be measured properly ,Type into search ,Pigeon Medicines then scroll down to web, then click on (Your medecine cabinet)by pigeon networks,an article will appear by Dr David Marx ,click onto (The Miracle Of Chlorine) and all will be revealed .You can also read his other articles for all you ever need to no ,Merry Xmas .
  8. Sure you are on the right lines there with the aarden /theelan bloodlines ? Christ for a better brain
  9. Having viewed the Thorsten DVD that a friend of his gave me,he stated that pigeons in the race team that were performing really well for him were retired to the stock loft at a young age before they were lost, then pairing best to best by type he was able to produce countless good pigeons from them, thus part of the reason why he is where he is at present,Now I for one have always kept pushing my best performing pigeons and inevitably a bad race will catch up with them and down they go ,hindsight is a wonderful thing but would love to still have some of the birds that have went down these last few years, perhaps a different approach is required ? What are your views thoughts on this one ,Thanks Mick
  10. If i can get the old grey matter working i should no ,have a grandson from it,there was a write up not that long ago
  11. A Very good honest reply that lets us see the true extent of the problem,Well Done John
  12. I have witnessed many times the peregrine strike a large batch of racers and seen the panic it causes with birds flying of in all directions can only imagine the outcome if it were to happen over open sea ,yes you are right the peregrine very often removes the head of its prey ,have seen this when visiting nest sights on there plucking stool or favoured point, all sorts from lapwings, seagulls crows just whatever it fancies really, awesome killing machine .
  13. Have not bred from racers for four to five years now, don,t see the point in keeping stock and breeding from the race team, although if a bird races really well would consider a latebred from it at end of season.
  14. Good Luck to them in there venture ,plus side if weather favourable and with mostly sw winds during racing season should be ok ,downside if weather changes once they are liberated they will loose the entire convoy, still have to face the falcon as they come of the sea and with most of the nest sites along cliff faces they would still get hammered,we cant get ours back from france with only the english channel to navigate ,so for me racing over the ocean remains a total no brainer .
  15. Merry Xmas to everyone hope you have a great day
  16. Merry Xmas to all on the Basics,From the Currie Household in Moffat
  17. Well Done on both, all the best for 2012
  18. At last years AGM the president asked for an extra day to be considered due to the timescale of making it for the initial crossing, once in france there was no problem just a bit tight making the ferry time, but got to agree day less has got to be best for the birds especially if there were high temp in uk and france, also think we should have taken almond valley offer of geraldy transporter .jmo
  19. Luck did not come into it,Really Good Pigeon,Really Top Performance,Well Done atb Mick.
