i woulld agree to a certain degree,, mite are deadly,,,, lice ar not so bad and feed as sammy says, but a pigeon with an ailment which cannot produce proper oil from oil gland on its back or is , for some reason ,not preening itself as it should would have more lice on it than usual,, but the odd lice on a pigeon would not do a lot of harm, in a healthy pigeon would make it prune itself more , keeping itself cleaner and feathers in better condition, ive judged showbirds b4 ,penned the day b4 and found the odd lice on many of them, its the mite that makes them stamp and dance ,or it mite anyway ;D

unfortunately they can suspend you without being at meeting ,, even if you have a doctors line,,,crazy,,,, but looking through the posts i would say if you have wittnesses that you paid ,,,,,,that should be enough,,, but have to say rick ,, smell a rat

good distance pigeons treated as so can score up till 8, 9 years old, but the norm is about 7 years ,, sprint birds are usually done a long time b4 this i.e.4 y,o

a lot would depend on the distances you would be going for , but in general , with shifts like you have would advise hopper feeding with beans, but giving them some carboheydrates to get them in and give them a treat , but again depending on distance :)

i would usualy mix a little wheat germ oil in their mix,,[for fertility], a little hemp will heat the blood up and give the a little more sexual desire , but maybe only for stock birds , as it may bring false early condition for the racers , i personally think theres too much empathise on yb raceing nowadays, when ,in scot anyway, there are only about 7yb races ,, but as old birds maybe 50, so its everyone to there own choosing :) ie sprint , distance or both,

brilliant pic ,, carl,,, whatever i use , usually tobacco stalks , but like to make them work for it , scattter it further and further away from loft , this can make them very keen when they have to fly with it.

i used to use the chicken eggs shells under the toaster for about a minute , crunch it up and there you are allmost pure calcium but as far as red grit and white grit , i think one is a sort of ground up sand stone, the, other being oystershell,,, i dont think the birds are that daft and eat what they want or what they need,, the black minerals contain , bleach , beleive it or not, and off course salt , and the pink pinerals contain a touch of aniseed , the amount is not going to effect the birds in any way , just that it smells nice,.watched them mixing the red band , in about a ton in the mixer , theres a very small bottle of aniseed liquid , only added for smell, so theres no differance to conditioner with or without aniseed , but off course redband sells better,, strange how they dont like any grit or minerals if its wet??

we allways here of scottish fanciers on about east ,,west north ,,south etc , whos got the best chance , whose got the worst chance etc,,i may be mistaken but looking very roughly at a map ,, theres a point in sweden direct east of edinburgh, where pigeons would have to fly over approx 400 miles of water, could this be possible? the distance from aberdeen would be the same distance as eyemouth, glasgow would get direct overfly [being direct west of edin]from edin, but pigeons dont like flying over water , probably a mad thought , but just wondered what scottish fanciers would think :) ps anyone remember hearing of captain hopas and his north sea dordins

distrust breeds hate,,hate breeds trouble,, and trouble is not the way forward ,,,which ever way you look at it
-
yes , def agree, when i raced them ,no matter how many i sent , it was great to go to kip on a sat night knowing their all home,, ;D [theres allways another race]
-
it would be great to see pics of your libs, but i notice a lot of distrusting fanciers, regarding race controllers , ass race controllers , convoyers,,, they are voted in because the majority trust them, most of these are dedicated hard workers doing , sometimes a thankless job,yes it would be nice to see pics , but a little more trust of the fanciers voted in, to do these jobs, would not go amiss .

hope you get something sorted out wings ,, seems odd you cant get in a club that near you , youd think they would all be glad to get members,, its pretty sad when you look at things now , my old club used to have 42 members at one time i think its down to about a dozen now , pity there wasnt some way to revamp the pigeon sport and attract members, i allways said if each single fancier could get another interested in racing pigeons , it would double right away , but off course thats easier said than done, anyway best of luck wings , youve allways got the national :)you did it last year
