maybe better deb, just feeding your two racers at the same time every day, making sure the street pigeon gets nothing , after yours have had their fill , leave no food lying about , or you may finish up with more street pigeons ;D ;D ;D, but young wiley is right they can possibly carry desease,so just care for your own :)
  3. question was do you , beleive in pedigrees , my answer to that would be, some i would say there are many a good pigeon about , but it takes the management to get the best out of them
  4. i like to keep galley pots in their nest boxes full all the time[ maples] [ybs eat quicker themselves this way, seing the adults feed] plenty grub , plenty clean grit, plenty clean minerals, pickstones etc ,, and find they come on a treat with a tablespoonfull of baby milk powder in their water, each day,
  5. a big welcome to all the new members,, hope you all enjoy the forum as im sure you will ,,,great to have you all :)
  6. protein feeding when they are growing , but still would only feed them once a day , just enough, that as soon as they become disinterested stop their not really fully developed untill their two years old but will successfully race to certain distances as ybs and yearlings
  7. i think if you look back on many so called breeds of pigeons , theres many introductions through the years , i remember asking a top wildy flier ,, whats the best breed ,,his answer was ,,,for selling, pure? for racing crossed, think that really sums it up , i think i would rather have birds bred through generations of winners , for the distance i was expecting out of them , than go for so called breeds, only my opinion
  8. looking way back in the posts coxy,,, a wee bit late in answering , but to tell you the truth never noticed it at the time,, the whites i had were actualy gay pieds , bred down from tam mcleods , lewis mitchells and my own, no particular breed as such , but bred down from winners ,,,one thing i do notice now , i have a gay pied allmost white,,,,,is when the neighbours pass in my residential mobile home site, they all pass remarks about" that lovely one"so if the neighbours are happy so am i ;D ;D
  9. bought quite an expensive hen from massareli bred from two nat winners,, bred absolutely nowt , gave it away, did more with the £99 for 6 ybs ;D ;D ;D, so it just goes to show???
  10. be carefull in what your doing, not to damage things anymore , remember a pigeon has three eye lids, one of these being a very fine membrane, which is very important to the bird,,,, maybe try and bathe with a cold tea bag first , then seek expert advice
  11. its a bad state nowadays if it has to come to this, my honest opinion is people are jealous of good fliers,,,

    help

nice to hear your the proud owner of these two pigeons now, you seem to have done well with them as they obviosly know their being looked after ,, the reason they could have been lost was probably due to them being young birds and maybe adverse weather in some race , or maybe simply lost track from their original loft,in bad weather, it sounds very like a cock and a hen to me , if their sitting next to each other, if so , theyll probably breed if you put a box in and a" nest bowl"im sure any local fancier would help and advise you, again he would advise you where to get the proper pigeon mix, which contains maize and maple peas, and sometimes other seeds , im sure some one near you on the forum will contact you and keep you right ,, who knows you might have two future champions there,, best of luck anyway and keep in touch,, :)
  20. when you handle a yb , [any age bird for that matter] tickle the hard boney bit under the eye quietly for a few mins ,,,,see how quiet that bird becomes :)
  21. must say i agree with you sammy , but there are some fanciers pick things up quicker than others ,,,,,,, i would say experience is not the time you have with the birds,,,,,, its what you" put in to the time" you have with the birds, :) must say i enjoy your posts ,,whoever you are
  22. have lit my candle for our wee princess,, very touching, and quite unforgettable , god bless wee rachel x
  23. ;D ;D ;D ;D soap box for sale sammy ,,,,,cheep ;D ;D ;D ;D
  24. i have ankylosing spondulitis [the same desease that chris small the edinburgh snooker player has ranked no 16 in the world, now had to give up] there are afew folk on the forum with this desease, according to the edin evening news, its a rare spinal condition in which sufferers can finish up in a wheel chair,, i joined the national ankylosing spondulitis ass.....n.a.s.s.,,,this society prodiuce a glossy mag 4 times a year which is sent to all members and doctors surgeries etc , this mag. contains all interesting articles, covering a wide range of topics, mostly advice on the desease and the various physio for sufferers to do , when i went to hosp, they had a list of all hobbies etc that would enable sufferers to keep neck movement etc fishing , darts, even kite flying when i mentioned keeping pigeons they were astounded at never thinking of that, as your looking up most of the time, even when their flying round, so they have now added this to their list of physical hobbies, all over,,,,now for the hard bit ;D ;D ;D pocket ;D if we,[ the forum] could manage a small donation , whether it be a pound coin or a cheque for a fiver, or indeed anything , i will be donating anyway, should anyone on the forum, wish to send a donation , i would only give names to the webmaster, put all donations in a "hopefully ,big bottle"put a pic of the bottle on the forum , the person who guessed the nearest amount , get a pair of ybs from a top flier. i have taken the liberty in getting in touch with the directer, and he would consider putting an article on pigeons with pics from" pigeon basics.co" maybe a young lad holding a white pigeon, and handing over the bottle,,,,,remember this mag can be bought privately but is usually sent to doctors surgeries if requested, it would be nice to see pigeon basics pic. on the front page of this mag ,and distributed to all places it could be seen,,,,,,this could only be good for all,,,,,,,,,,members thoughts :)
  25. ihave quite a few fanciers visit me , all are great decent good living lads , and would help anybody, one of my freinds who has an empty loft all equipment , often ready to start, takes one look at all the arguments then refuses to start ,, is that what you all want,,,, my own opinion, for what its worth , is look forward ,not backwards , there are many ways in which each individual fancier can help the sport survive , one is by helping one another, not running down one another, supporting one another, the political arguments in the sport are ruining it, new starters will just not be bothered when they see all that. all organizations should attract , not chase away.,,,,,need a new soap box now ;D ;D ;D
