scottym7 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Hi Guys I am breeding my racers for the first year and hopefull of racing this season, I was kindly given birds from a friend and when trying to train them last year i lost a few (hooky beak i think), howeve i was left with 7 and my freind gave me a loan of some of his stock birds to even up the pairs, I bought a pair at B/pool and was also gifted another pair, then another gent from the site has loaned me 2 pair so i have 9 pair to breed of so fingers crossed. The reason for my post is that i was wondering if anybody can give me an idea of what strains fly what distances as it is all new to me and i am not quite grasping it as i bought birds in Blackpool and i dont think they are suite for pairing (to late now tho lol). And what the distances are i.e sprint = ???miles, middle =????miles. Scotty M
north wales novice- Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 potentialy a hundred diffrent answers to these questions Scott . and the many combinations of the same . ask those who youve had the parents off what they think the distance is for those specific birds . as to those you dont know about , could send them till they start to come home slow and theyve probably reached their peak . and very best of luck . andy.

Tony C Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Don’t look at them as strains but more as individuals. Take a look at the link below, read what they have to say on structure and wing. http://www.racingpigeondigest.com/archives/featured_articles/101

JAS Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 The birds don,t now if they are sprint or distance its all on the feed you give them. We have janssens that were on the Alencon result 557mls. A SVR hen on the Falaise result 531mls. If you feed them right some familys will do it but you wont find out if you don,t try them.
ritchie1 Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 one thing you dont want to do is pair sprint to long distance birds mate it will be a disaster for you to start off with try and find out whats your sprint doos and distance doos and keap them away from each other
