a pair of my pigeons the cock bird is dark cheq the hen bird is a gay pied all white with dark velvet wings their two off-spring are one dark cheq pied the other is blood red,i have been told this is not possible from the above pair is that correct.

I might be wrong here but I think both parents would have to be carrying recessive red which would be very rare, but probable a red in the loft has been involved.

The only other possible reason could be what you describe as velvet on the hens wings is masking red, in which case the young red would be a cock
