Just on to making perches and nest boxes for my 6x4 loft, what is the smallest I can build 2 or 3 nest boxes to save space?

If your doing the plastic fronts there around 24 inches, if doing your own make to suit, will sort some dvd's out over weekend for you

If you have a look at crafty fifer top right or search his posts you will get some ideas on sizes etc

If you go with a 'natural' type box, they would be approx. 20" internal. These would finish out at about 22" external.

However, different designs would give different sizes. If you took a 'widowhood hen' style box, and simply made them deeper, you could have them about 16" wide !

In all honesty, bespoke boxes would be made to suit you !

Hi Simon

You will need to make your fronts, to suit the size u want.

The height is good (plastic fronts are 14 inches.

Once you half the box to give you a left and right door, your doors will be in the region of 11 1/2 inches, which will give you a size of 11 1/2 x 11 1/2 inch area for the bowl to sit in.

That no gives you a space of 6 1/2 inches in front of the fronts.

I hope that makes sense.

Regards

alex

Changed my plan on the nest boxes and ordered the metal 25"x13.5" widowhood fronts.

I've had the width of the wood cut, what size should I make the boxes to fit those fronts?

You have already pre-determined your width and height by the fronts you've ordered , all you have to do is decide your depth.

Do I not need to allow for the screw in eyelets?

Wait till you get the fronts, see how they are fixed then make them to suit your fronts.

I wouldn't make the boxes first until i seen the fronts, then all will go swimmingly well.
