Sorry if anyones eating dinner....buy does anyone know of any specific topics on here that explain the basics of what the different textures/colour of droppings tells you about a bird.

 

Am i correct in thinking the drier the better as disease tends to carry in moist droppings ?....if so how do you get the droppings drier im currently feeding a basic pigeon mix from Jollyes

have a look on chevita.com a dropping wont come out dry , secondly the heat in a dropping attracts humidity , but the quicker it dries out the better Droppings will differ from what your feeding Wet dropping aren't good

Basically the perfect droppings are round pebble shaped brown with a white bit in it,first light is the best time to study them before they have been trampled, a sprinkling of small down feathers on top of the droppings is the icing on the cake, poor droppings are usually loose or even watery and a varied shade of green.

Any bird can have an off day for whatever reason, but if the droppings are poor for a number of days with no reason, then you may have to look at why.

Excellent thanks,can a green,loose or watery dropping be down to stress as ive moved my birds about a bit lately as been building a new loft.

100% absolutely, moving birds from one loft to another will give green dropping for a couple of days, they probably didn't eat much the first day.

Any change can cause this, going without a feed for whatever reason, a change in the feeding supplier, coming home from a hard race, all can give green droppings, but they should quickly recover to normal droppings.

colour of droppings can be green or brown depending what you feed but should never be watery

also something else like cocci can raise its ugly head when stress is involved which could turn the droppings green id nearlly bet your cocci levels are high
