And missed the part confirming that the racing pigeons etc. are listed under the Aliens and invasive species of National Environmental Management: But have it of course. 13th October 2014 The President: SANPOBy Email: *********** Dear Mr. **************Re: National list nof invasive Bird Species. The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs published in the Government Gazette number 37886 a list of Aliens and invasive species of National Environmental Management :Biodiversity Act No 10 of 2004 (later referred to as the act). Columba livia, the pigeon species used in races is listed under category 3 of the aforementioned list. It is therefore a prohibited activity as defined in the aforementioned act to:- 1. Import into the Republic, including introducing from the sea, any species of a listed invasive species; 2.Grow, breed or in any other way propagate any specimen of a listed invasive species, or causing to multiply: 3. Convoy, move or otherwise translocate any specimen of a listed invasive species; 4. Sell or otherwise trade in, buy, give, donate or accept as a gift, or in any way acquire or dispose of any specimen of a listed invasive species. It is also a prohibited activity as defined in nRegulation6 to:- 1. Spread or allow spreading of any species of a listed invasive species; 2. Release any specimen of a listed species. Considering the points above, we would like to bring it to SANPO and it's member's attention that any activities in contravention of the act will be reported to the mentioned department, Your cooperation in this regards is highly appreciated.
