hotrod Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 Saw this on FB and thought I would share it with the Basics members. http://www.itv.com/n...illed-by-hawks/ Please comment sensibly on this!Good piece ,but surprised at him only losing 6 to 10 a year to hawks ??? Out of 80 pigeons kept. Unless this is to sparrow hawks only . The rspb is sympathetic to pigeon fanciers aye right . Tossers .
white logan Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 if you had a dog out of control two things would happen ;1/ expect the dog to be shot ;2/expect to face fines for having a dog out of control killing livestock a farmer has the right to shoot a dog if it is worrying livestock and quite rightly so why can we not defend what is our livestock , the birds are in our control which hard earned money provides their up-keep and stock has to be purchased the bird of prey problem has gone beyond a joke now and having witnessed the peregrine decline of the 50s and 60s which must have been the hayday of pigeon fanciers things do need to be addressed England traditionally supported around 750 pairs of peregrines on cliffs in various areas , not on high rise buildings and church towers ,cooling towers etc sparrowhawks were confined to woodlands and pastures not everyones back gardens and city parks , the RSPB is a law to its own and now raptors rule everywhere I would like to see a cull and numbers brought down to a reasonable level
white logan Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) one more point I would like to make is , the RSPB have had MILLIONS OF POUNDS donated to its funds through the peregrine appeal fund and having just watched the video I see it is still spinning the same old sh1t about peregrines being low in numbers nearly every church spire has an artificial nest box installed on it with web cams and a begging box nearby with someone bleating how these poor birds are still persecuted Edited October 16, 2014 by THE FIFER posting re air rifles a bit dodgy

Guest bigda Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 ASK THEM THIS, IF DDT MAKE EGG SHELLS SOFT, WHAT HAPPEND TO THE SPARROWS EGGS THE DOVES EGGS, THE PIGEON EGGS. WHY DID THEY NOT GO INTO EXTINCTION, WE ARE GETTING TOLD A LOAD OF LIES AND WE NEED TO DRIVE IT HOME HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE PIGEON ONCE MORE TO DELIVER MESSAGES IN CASE OF WAR AND COMMUNICATIONS EVER GET TAKEN OUT THEY MIGHT NEVER BUT WE MUST HOLD THE RSPB FEET TO THE FIRE OVER IT TILL THEY ACCEPT THE SITUATION AS NO MESSAGE WOULD GET THROUGH AT THE RATE THEY ARE ALLOWING BY INTERFERING WITH NATURE the bird population is getting decimated and they are blaming everthing but there greed
kingziemckay Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 in ww2 the armed forces in the uk wiped out every peregrine falcon seen in the uk,so the messenger pigeonscould get messages back from the front line, every falcon seen was killed, shot and nests destroyed and were allowed to do so,this a fact, not fiction!! but all they want to do nowadays is get there numbers back up!!!and put stupid boxesup in towns and churchs, what is not even nature,,what next???
Guest bigda Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) the only way legally we ae going to stop the bob is, we do not train any pigeon that has not got the stuff on it that stops hens pecking each other, there are a few makes we must find out the best one. and for every one to use, that way given time the young peregrine will soon learn the pigeon taste bad, this will not stop our birds from training up yet if the unions supplied the bottles for its members to use it would be a help, and any member not using it while tossing or training get a fine or a 4 week ban, there is nothing the rspb can do about that, and if the peregrine aint killing the streeter we can then call them out about having useless peregrines in the town not killing the streeter as they say that is why they are placed in the town in the first place.
