me Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Out of interest do you think moderators should be elected for a term on the site, say a year then stand for re-election? First of all a "mod" has to know how to spell "should"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though apart from Richard who I know is 100%, the rest of his " pals " are pretty well off of the mark when it comes to "dispassionate moderation". But sadly we just have to put up with it or lose the "site" Richard provides for us. Many thanks for all your efforts maintaining the site on our behalf Richard, your efforts are appreciated by more than you realise! - I hope!!!!
THE FIFER Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Can I apologise for the mistyping on many of my posts, my PC blew up and I'm using a damn lap top with a pad for a mouse and I just can't get used to it!! i use my laptop most of the time, yes i agree the touch pad takes a little getting used to, but once u do the laptop is very handy, take it anywhere around the house, i agree with your say regarding moderators, it must be left to the webmaster, if they were elected by the members they would have to please them to be voted on, the webmaster does a great job, and he controlles the moderators and keeps us in line, we only put threads or posts up for his inspection, if we think they are off line, it is he who deletes them or puts them back on site, hope u get ur pc back on ok,

Say for instance at "fed" or "union" level we were being "led astray" Would they still be "messengers"?

Say for instance at "fed" or "union" level we were being "led astray" Would they still be "messengers"? Haven't any experience of Richard operating as a Dictator, benign or otherwise, or leading anyone astray. Quite the opposite he asks us moderators for our opinions, and he asks members for their opinions too. But the final decision is his. Would hope that would continue following change of webmaster or moderator(s).
jimmy_bulger Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 i think this site has been run ok to be honest as apposed to other sites. if we let the lunatic's take over the assylum (WELL A GOOD THING CAN BE MUCKED UP) just my opinion. jimmy

Anyone who is beyond question and dictates the rules is a dictator in any walk of life, a moderator is one who moderates and so far when I ask a question of a moderator they can't answer or not willing to answer they revert to this rule, "You are not allowed to question a moderators decision and their decision is final" Moderator or Dictator you choose :-/
Ian Gill Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 In my humble opinion there seems to be a core element on this site determined to ruin it!!! I cant remember the last time I came on and read a decent thread about racing or breeding pigeons...its filled now with gripes about certain members losing a few quid and going on and on about it... I have known Richard for quite a while now and met him on numerous times at shows with Mo and Silver and hes a great lad and certainly doesnt deserve the hassle a lot of you guys are giving him.. I take my hat of to the moderators on this site and for that matter every other site as well because it is a thankless job they do and the abuse they take at times is unreal and uncalled for.
Webmaster Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Firstly let me thank everyone for their comments on this issue. Moderation is always a tricky issue, because it is political; should we intervene? when should we intervene? should we influence or represent the debate? In Westminster you'll get the Labour view, the Conservative view, the SNP view, right down to the Monster Raving Loony view. How often do they all agree? Firstly let me settle that the selection of moderators is not up for discussion at any time. The selection will also never be done by the means of a vote. You must understand that moderators, dont actually want to moderate. We would much prefer it if we didnt have to remove profanity, intervene in a 'flame war', or remove topic hijacking posts, for example. It is only that at certain times, some people will post up material that is not suitable - infact most will know this when they post it, but for whatever reason it still gets posted. Compared to many forums our moderation is deliberately very liberal; and it is because of that you are able to discuss a wide range of topics and take in a wide range of views. for example: How many other forums would alow the discussion of moderation :-/ ? Unfortunately there will always be people that wish to push the boundries of what is acceptable, and that is when problems become prominent. If everyone was to conduct themselves in a manner that would be acceptable in any other walk of life, and if not, at least keep to the guidelines given in the code of conduct; would we be needing to discuss anything related to moderation? In a nutshell; moderation is a two way process; the problem is not the consequence of the problem.
