Guest Owen Posted September 12, 2014 Report Posted September 12, 2014 I have had a injured stray youngster from Norfolk in my loft for nearly a week now. I live near Pontypool in South Wales. I phoned the owner who told me that the bird had been transferred to a guy near Gloucester but the guy had not transferred the bird but must have raced it. The bird had the original Owner's wing stamp in it's wing. When I spoke to the guy with the telephone number on the wing he refused to reclaim the bird because he said he wanted me to toss it. I told him that the bird was injured and was unlikely to make it home he said that he could not afford to send for it. He then informed me that I was being unreasonable because I insisted on him having his bird back. Well, I hope the Owner reads this because I want to assure him that he will have his bird back. And if the guy who raced the bird reads this he wants to think himself lucky that he does not get into trouble for racing birds that are not registered to him. I will not name either of these people right now or give out the ring number of the bird but they can rest assured that I will follow this up through the Reddings if they do not take responsibility for their property.
andy Burgess Posted September 12, 2014 Report Posted September 12, 2014 we all have a story to tell Owen , some worse than others regarding strays .hope theres a happy ending to this one
Guest Owen Posted September 12, 2014 Report Posted September 12, 2014 Andyi think the worse thing about cases like this is the damage these people do by bring the sport into disrepute. Most of the best Flyers I know would not behave like this and most of the idiots are the ones who could not fly a paper bag. I would willingly help anyone with their stray bird and I have gone to all sorts of trouble to help people have their birds back but I am not prepared to be taken for a ride by anyone.I believe that if people want to fly their birds they must be prepared to retrieve them if they get lost. I am certainly not interested in listening to the sob stories that some want to tell me. So "Man from Norfolk" be assured that I will go to what ever lengths I have to to get you to behave responsibly and not unload your problems onto me or anyone else. If I have to drive to Norfolk and deal with this Clown there I will.
greenbar Posted September 12, 2014 Report Posted September 12, 2014 any birds we lose,i like to know where they are.and try 100% to get them back.u,ll always get the muppets who lose birds ,and say oh thats it gone, and when it gets reported, all the sad crap comes out. i am dealing with one at the moment, who is on his last chance.then it,s the shu.
C WRIGHT Posted September 12, 2014 Report Posted September 12, 2014 wish some one would report several i have lost lol belgium rung birds seem not to go into lofts when lost haha its not funny but true
Guest Owen Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 I breed some very nice looking grizzles and they are the same as the Belgium rung birds because I have never had one reported.I lost a bird last weekend which was reported near Nottingham. I drove to Nottingham nearly 600 miles round trip to get it back last Monday. The bird was from one of my good racers with 5 firsts behind him and was a related to a pair of nest mates both of which have topped the Fed. The stray bird had topped the Fed with nearly 5000 birds in it so there was no way I would leave it to a Courier to get him. The bird concerned is a rather dull checker in colour which tends to be reported. Perhaps the lesson we should learn is that it is better to breed unattractive coloured birds rung with GB rings.
