sheppy27 Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 So I have been on the lookout for a loft 24x8 to 30x8 without any look can't afford a brand new one I have someone who can build one for me but have no idea how much timber I would need so can't work out the cost to build my own
BIGPETE Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Best bet it to talk to the person building it. Any tradesman worth their salt will know roughly what you need in terms of timber. Timber is very expensive though, if you are buying new timber and paying someone to build it you might find the price isn't far off a budget pre built/bought loft. A lot of the manufacturers are buying timber in bulk and knocking them up in workshops and then just coming to the house and building them (almost flat pack) in a matter of hours.
bibendium Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Try E bay or Gumtree for a second hand loft. might save yourself a few ££
sheppy27 Posted September 4, 2014 Author Report Posted September 4, 2014 nothing about 2nd hand unless bhw has some i have not started getting that but will next week onwards thanks for replies guys

Guest bigda Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 danny would you put wood on the roof before you put the tin sheets on ? yes stop the condensation
Guest Owen Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 I hope you don't mind me making a suggestion that many will not agree with. Try to build your loft no wider than 6' and without any form of corridor. Make sure it is away from trees and facing the sun. Have a look at Red Rose Lofts and you will see the cheapest form of pigeon loft available. The cost will be easy to work out and most people are capable of building this loft. When I built mine I bought the material from Wicks and they gave me a 10% discount as well as delivering.
Guest chad3646 Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 yes stop the condensation well you should have mentioned that
