eagle79 Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 has any body worked out which part of race pigeon travels fastest ,120 mile race would he travel faster rom 0to40 or 40 to 80 or 80 to 120 miles which section do experts think he would travel in fastest time hope this is not crazy question please don't reply it depends on the bird
frankdooman Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 Don't think it quite works that way the speed is coverened by a few things but wind/ weather conditions mainly another thing that I feel contributes is birdcage and are they all racing to the same area yes they might move a wee bit quicker at the start of a long race but the experienced distance bird will set his pace and soldier on JMO
eagle79 Posted June 26, 2014 Author Report Posted June 26, 2014 would a group of 200 birds make better time than10 birds or would this make no differance
frankdooman Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 I was thinking more of the no,s 3'000 than say 800/900 birds but yes it might help with they no,s too
Kyleakin Lofts Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 Single up used to be advocated to find the pigeons that could navigate and to train them to be happy flying solo.Double up or triple up was advocated to give the pigeons a flying mate to race against thus speeding them up because single tossing definitely produced lower velocities. With this in mind, the larger the flock the faster they would fly once they build a 'head of steam', especially so with sprint style racing. With regards to training, do not put all your eggs in one basket. Train your pigeons in small batches to avoid complete loss from BOP attack. These are all comments that I have heard mooted by others, you decide, bearing in mind they only take into consideration numbers and no other factor, excepting the BOP attack.
sarg Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 sorry don't post much on here but still searching/researching about pigeons, came across this that might help you. Type GPS pigeon project, into youtube and look at geroma island release, its interesting viewing, speeds, hieghts all recorded
