Guest bigda Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 the way i see it is barley is one of the grains any bird can get in season should it be roughing it, now for what is in a bag of mix 70% of what is in it the bird would never be able to get like the peanut, peas,as they are in pods, and any other from a pod as it , would be near imposable for a pigeon to get at. but if barley can make whiskey and beer and bread what more does a man and his birds need.
Guest slugmonkey Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 I dont feed barley ... I do use >5% as a guide if they are eating it then I feed more, my pigeons HATE it and wont eat if there is anything else available .... as far as wheat I dont use more than 10% as my birds eat it last and if fed in higher percentages it loosens the droppings .... I open loft my birds year round so I dont worry about them getting fat ..... I know some have success with barley but it dosent work for me ...at the distance I go VERY heavy on fat and protein and sometimes will just go on hemp, white peas and sunflower hearts .... sunflower has almost the same nutritional profile as peanuts but without the risk of mold poisoning the birds The dupurative theory to me sounds like a bad theory as when I workout heavy I need more protein .... I race my birds every week and since I started feeding lots of protein they seem to be able to bounce back a lot better and I get better performance ......
OLDYELLOW Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 Your comparing athletes with body builders , brown will slow you down , protein feed days are well gone here unless flying Barcelona great for rearing not for flying
