geordie1234 Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 I'm looking to have a go at having a team off darkness youngster's next year guys... Do you guys have any top tips or major don't when on the system?
Tony C Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 when you take them of the dark you can start cutting the protein in their feed back by adding barley or depurative. 5 parts w/h mix to 3 parts barley or 5 parts w/h mix to 4 parts depurative.
Guest Owen Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 The darkness system is straight forward enough although there are a few drawbacks if you are not careful. The loft does not have to be very dark and it pays you not to try to get it so dark that it causes major problems with the ventilation. I biggest problem I have had over the last 5 years or so is that you must get the birds into the air early because if you don't you can end up with birds that just will not fly. Then you try to force the issue and run into trouble with fly aways or birds flying singly all over the sky which attracts the falcon. On a more positive note, I am sure you would not win a bladder if you were not on the darkness around here. All the major winners have their birds on darkness and the young bird Nationals and Opens are always late in the year when natural pigeons are deep in the moult which makes it very difficult for them to compete.

gulkie Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 When you put the team you want on darkness don't keep adding to them .
