and thats my point each person deals with this, in their own way,it works for you for me it would not, the only thing i would disagree with is that most birds clear the droppings from the nest site, they have to, otherwise they would be cat food

Many people don't clean arround the bowls on a daily or weekly basis as they don't like to disturb the birds especialy yearling how could leave the nest and stop feeding the young.

Mark has also stated that he has been away and its hard enough to get somebody you can trust to feed the birds let alone expect them to clean out as well!

guys keep giving your insults because while your insulting me, your leaving someone else alone, i got a thick skin and can handle your petty comments. I do not see why you cant let this site thrive for helping others.. but have a nice day guys.  :)

Old yellow out of interest could you pm me the address of the vet as well as how much he charges and how long he takes to get results out as i like to test mine prior to racing thanks

id advise to find a more local vet as the chats i have are very informative im sure theres a Defra Vet in your area however there details are on the thread below , they may know of someone that is closer to you , however there prices are £30 for a full test including canida / respirity

much cheaper than treating blind and reducing your birds natural immunity then at least you find out if your birds are good enough if your managements right  ;)

i agree, blind treatments and low immunity is not good for a colony of birds mark. your spot on there.

I looked after marks birds while he was away and thay were all in brillant nick, I could only feed & water them as I was on night shifts the whole time he was away, then had my own to see to before going to bed, mark took the pics the next day when he got back, the ventalation in his loft is that good that after 7 days with no cleaning out there was no smell in the loft at all.

Is that £30 per bird or hows it done? Never had mine tested, TBH never felt the need, sent some birds away once just to see, but he found nothing unusual.

normally you get a test kit which contains a pot for droppings ans swabs for throat.

Take a selection of droppings from around the loft or keep each section seperate and then some sample throat swabs.

as phill states collect fresh droppings mix in to a paste fill tub and a couple of swabs and send away simple as that , at least if the need to treat arises you can treat with a spectrum specific to the bacteria or what ever ailment you have as the drop the samples to see what treatment responds to best , treating blindly can make ailments worse as can give the pathogens the right enviroment to multiply  :)

TBH i never treat blindly, what i use (mainly natural products) is for prventative. Anything that does get ill, will only be treated for what i think it is, if it does not respond then its removed permanently. I've never had any real serious colony outbreaks (no more than 2 or 3 birds getting ill). I know there are those that say they could be a potential champion your culling, but ain't they all at the beginnig of the season, but we never worry too much when they go missing or do nowt do we.

As had been said many times before and will be said many times in the future, prevention is better than cure!

Have to agree 99% of the time if a birds ailing when rests fine i would isolate give a few days no better then it goes in garden ;) , ill or weak birds are gateways for illness in the loft if a birds constitution is sound they rarely ail if the managements right ;)

If you keep getting headaches you must be stressed or is it that you have to keep looking over your shoulder! :-/
