barless mealies seem popular, there was a few on louella site last week they went straight away. is it really that hard to breed them ? do they make good racers ?

A barless mealy is a spread ash red. So as they say, take any spread ( self ) and cross with an ash red. Spread takes the colour from the tail bar and spreads it over the bird hence a spread blue is black etc, etc.

strange they look almost bald, i have one in the nest that was almost bald and i think that its gonna be a silver the parents are both red cheqs

It is because they have the dilute gene ( which makes them yellow "dilute red" ) One of your red chequers must be carrying the dilute gene. Your bald youngster will be a yellow.

shes a hen and bred winners when on loan to Kirky  ;) bought her at a breeder buyer had pick of loft  ;) was only black un all rest were chequers , but she stuck out and werent just the colour ;-) i believe these crossed with a grizzle will produce the reverse bronze 'kite'  ;)
