sob555 Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 it was my first race this morning. sent 18 birds,it would have been 28 but lost 10 of the loft front thursday morning, 8 missing from the race came dead last out of 11 members and 600 birds, 15 mins behind the winning bird. i wasnt expecting to win my first ever race hahaha. looking forward to next weeks race to narrow the gap,
Wiley Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Keep it up, bet it was some experience for you timing your first bird? Your first year its about getting them home to have a team of old birds next season the results will come.

Wiley Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Youngsters on there first race, can be nervous when arriving to the loft singally. That's why many single toss on an empty belly from a very short distance, so there used to coming home by themselves and trapping.

ForestForever74 Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 well done on timing mate and good luck for the rest of the season. I still have the hen that I timed in my first ever race 3 years ago. A nice white hen who bred me 7TH section in yb national 2012 :-)
blaz Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 it might be a good idea to send yb,s to the short races with no feed on the friday but beware .you need to double check the weather for race if the winds on their nose or looks like being a toughest race i woulld feed them.i alway feed my yb,s on the friday before a race.my reason is this.yb,s can easly make a mistake on their way home as their only lerning and on an empty tank it might be their last mistake not having the enargy to corect it.better to time the friday feed to say between 10 am and 11am. the birds should be hungry enough 23 or 24 hours later. only my opinion
john cumming Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 we have all been there, but it will come just takes a little time then youll start getting in the mix, john

I get very frustrated when I see new starters trying their best and not receiving proper advice ,I visited A top fancier many years ago and left his loft as if I had visited M15 ,Stick in improve no one is unbeatable Good Luck Mick
