Hi,

I have a particular Cock in my lofts which is a cross of both of the above fanciers. I would be interested in any background on them please. Distances flown, family type, race successes etc.

Many Thanks,

Steve

Robert Cormack from Winchburgh? was a terrific distance fancier in SNFC racing, he still breeds birds for friends and charity sales etc, though no longer races. I believe Robert raced good Scottish birds, blended together to create his own family. Sorry i cannot be of more help with a telephone number or the like, but i'm sure if you wanted his phone number i could source it for you.

R Telfer & Son have not raced for some years now, perhaps 7 or 8. Initially Douglas Telfer (the Son) kept his stock birds with another fancier i think but i could not tell you whether he still has them or not.

Back in the 70's and early 80's the Telfer's had a team of Blacks, known locally as "Telfer's Black Jets" which were almost unbeatable at sprint racing. The birds he owned latterly before taking a sabbatical i have no knowledge of at all, Douglas is a Perfect Gentleman and is still a member of the Federation, i am certain if you caught him when he was not busy he would furnish you with all the info you need about the Families of birds he has housed over the years.......If you would like a direct number for Douglas i can PM it to you. Atvb John.

I have Robert Cormack birds which are the base of my loft. I got them from his packing up sale and another 6 a couple of years later. I think he has no birds now. I can pm you his number if you want. The man's one of the real gentleman of the sport, a real nice guy.

The last year he raced he won (I think it was called) the Scottish Central Combine With Lyrona Dainty 3.

Robert Cormack, in my opinion, is one of the greatest fanciers to fly into my area and indeed Scotland.

He was twice 2nd Open SNFC. Including from Rennes against nearly 8000 birds.

He won both the SCC cross channel race and the yearling Derby.

These are just the highlights as he won 100s of prizes from 500 + miles. He raced the only birds I can think of to have won Section D twice from the Kings Cup and arguably his best ever pigeon was the great 'Freckles' 18th,12th and 7th Open SNFC Rennes.

His birds could be called his own and they have a distinctive look about them, they were based on the pigeons of Rabbie Stoddart, Waddock Bros, Jimmy Feeney, Jock Reid, Jimmy Callan, the Ogilvie family, Colin Bain's 'Treble Joy', Carlin Bros, Black of Dromore and so on.

A real top class fancier and man.

The Telfers used to advertise their Black Jets as Scotland's sprint champions. A pair known as ' Madame' and 'Monsiuer' were responsible for over 80 1st prize winners and these fanciers topped the biggest federation in the country 16 times

The original cock I got from him was out of Colin's Boy from Colin Bain. A cracker but broke his neck during a sparrow hawk attack. He rests under the garden grass now.

Lads, that is just super information - thank you all !

The bird I have is indeed a son of GG Granson of "Freckles" - as evidenced by his pedigree. I am amazed at the reverence that he is obviously held in as a fancier and thank you all for your input.

Some other details from the pedigree......

In his Pedigree are the following Cormack birds ; GG Grand Parents - Lyrona Freckles & Lyrona Barny, and the Dam was Lyrona Dainty Three

There are the followuing Telfer birds there too ; A GG Grand sire was Cara SRN, Grand Parents Cara Ode and Cara Gold Medal, the Sire being Cara Quatrain.

He is an '07 bird.

Many thanks again,I may well go looking for those telephone numbers.

Barney was a super breeding cock that produced a lot of good pigeons around here for Robert and others. Unfortunately he was killed by a hawk a couple of years back, think he was around 15 years old at the time and was still filling his eggs.

We timed grandchildren and great grandchildren off him last year from over the water and all going to plan there will be some birds from this line going to our cross channel races in the next few weeks.
