Guest newcomer Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 Thank you every one who answered my questions in earlier posts, I have finally got my birds in, I must admit after the 4 days they are a sorry site, my once full of life, shiny silky feathered birds most certainly are not like that now. I have put them in their nest boxes and fed them a light feed and fresh water, tonight I let them have the run of their section again and there is some life in them. Well some are fighting over nest boxes again, and causing each other some damage. I have given them the 3 in one pill as dropping are far from good very green and very watery, I used garlic in their drinker to help their digestion and clear the stomach’s, they had another light feed tonight and I have placed them back in their nest boxes for tonight so they can get some rest, is there anything else you can think of to help them get back to normal, and do you think that this will mess them up this racing / breeding season, if so what would you do. I had then just right they shone with health and wattles as white as white, but with this weather and four days without food they look far from that, any advice more than welcome.

Pompey Mick Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 They should be ready for a substantial increase in food intake now, you will need to get them into a feeding regime before they go out again. If your cocks are driving, just let them out, do not let the hens out again until they are sitting as a driven hen is not the best of trappers anyway. Make sure you let the birds out about an hour before the specified feed time, if they are driving and peckish they should be no trouble to trap as long as there is no repeat of your cat problem. Make sure you are on hand all the time the birds are out, and if you do see a cat do not make too much noise and unrest in scaring it off as sometimes more damage is done by the fancier chasing away a cat than the actual cat itself.
