Roland Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 Fortunately NOT all kids are the same. No two ways about that ... But...Well my grandson (a 14 year old) hovers around and gets a few bob oft times because he is bored and nothing to do. He is a bit of a scally wag to say the least... Any way Misses says I shouldn't just give him some dosh but make him earn it, or give all the others , about 20 of them lol, a fiver each too. So I says to him last year about this time – wouldn't dream of him asking to clean a loft out, nor would he, I believe, So I said 'do you fancy painting the inside of the lofts, I'll pay you. You can make as much mess as you like provided ever part is covered. How much do you want to do it'? He says £10. I smiled and said 'Done deal' and as I told the wife privately I'll give him £25. 15 minutes later he comes in and says #Can I finish it tomorrow as I have to see....'. I said yes, but you won't get a penny. In fact lets make a contract here and now. No half jobs, all to be covered or not a penny. I wrote it out and added his name and that he'd read it and agreed. Which he did. I went and espied the work he'd done. Was just the hair marks and large gaps on the odd part he'd tried to cover. Next day didn't turn up as he said he would. Long story short he never came back. I did it myself.A week later he's down with his mum and she asked if I was going to pay him? I showed her the contract and offered to show the work NOT done etc. I gave him a £5 note.Any way about October same again. I said well behind the loft some bushes and the odd tree twigs are brushing up against the loft. Needs cutting back … about 10 minutes work and I'll give him a tenner as it saves me climbing about etc. Beside he is little enough etc.. I also said that wood in the shed you can chop up for your mums kindling wood. - She has often asked if I minded logging and cutting up HER wood, and give her it to boot, which I refuse as I do my own and said her husband should do it... she says he isn't capable, so I say 'Well freeze then'. His mum when phoned said. Tell Roly if they are logs she'll have them IF I would cut the up, as he isn't allowed to use a chopper or saw etc. Any way he makes an excuse and says he'll be back in morning, then Monday, then Sat etc. Well his mum and dad are up the Sat after and she s to me. Aaron gets better money doing the odd jobs around town, like in the Garage he gets £20, so you have to pay him at least £20 a time! But he hardly ever goes or gets asked back I says! Besides your old man does Chinese deliveries for £20 a night … Yes she buts in, but he gets tips, and that goes towards our holidays! Ekk so what, that is what one does to support and look after a family I said! Besides that works out £3 -£4 an hour he earns! Yet you expect me to pay Aaron for 10 minutes work £20! .. Yes she buts in, it's got to be worth that … I says 'Well for that 10 minutes works out at £120 an hour. I think I'll have to come and work for you lol.She never works, nor does house work. Her elder son won't work, nor her brother. Her daughter … well doesn't work, and Aaron doesn't … What a shower eh! By the way his dad is my step son, and another lazy good for nothing git … but does work but won't raise a finger in the house. My sons work hard, as do my daughters, two have own businesses etc. etc. I worked hard as a lad, was 12 when On sledge behind tractor dragged over the ground on a 2 x 3 sledge stacking Bales etc. Then bay carting, potatoe picking etc. EVERY year when able or work was available, even turkey farm etc. Did morning and Night paper rounds WITH a butchers rounds and A Sunday paper round. Mum had 95% lol and I was happy with just a few bob. So I blame the parents in making things too easy, living on credit cards. Fine if they want the designer cloths etc. Earn it! Am I wrong or just too old fashioned?
buster151 Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 no you are correct they should earn it
Walter swanston Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 You are 100% correct Roland I was a child during world war 2 in conditions of extreme poverty and near starvation. Kids nowadays do`nt know how lucky they are and if that makes me sound like a miserable old git I do`nt care.
