Guest snowy2011 Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 Hi was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice. What are the best birds to use for ybs to make them hit the loft quicker?I did have a tippler but it went missing never seen it again didn't know weather these were the right things to use? Or is there something better. If so where is the best place to get hold of some? Many thanks

JMO.I agree no need for droppers at all if there taught from yb's to associate your whistle or chosen noise with food they will trap like bullets i whistle my yb's all the time when there feeding so as soon as they hear the que they know its feeding time id b more worried using droppers they would keep the birds out if they didnt go straight in loft n lets face it fantails arent the brightest lol

JMO.AGREE TO A POINT YES YOUR YBS SHOULD TRAP BUT AFTER A WHILE SOME GET WISE WE,VE USED CUT DOWN WHITE FANTAILS FOR YEARS AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS WITH GREAT SUCCESS USING "TRAPPERS" CAN AND HAVE ALONG WITH CALLING GOT MANY A YB OUT OF A BATCH GOING STRAIGHT OVER THE TOP
Wiley Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 I have a 13yr old White fantail x nun hen, we owe her a lot. The first few young birds the birds should come up in a drove and you need to pull them out of the bunch as young birds will stay up there for the ride. Generally East London pigeons if you haven't pulled them out with the use of the dropper the birds will hit the Thames and come back, by this time from 73 miles and 114 miles you have lost the race. My young birds are trained to trap and anyone that's been to the loft will tell you the same, but it does help when the see from a distance another bird entering the loft just my opinion. But we race to open doors.
Tony C Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 When youngsters are trained unless you single them up they come in a group.......... when racing theres a good chance a pigeon will come on its own which is alien to them, this is when droppers can be the difference between winning and being an also ran. A youngster will more often than not be wary of entering an empty loft on its own, again this is where a dropper comes in handy. They get my vote! By the way I use a fantail cock.
Guest snowy2011 Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 I have a house right at the back of my loft and on race days with ybs I always seem to get one and if its on its own it lands on the house first.. Nothing I can do about that. As its not my house but I used the use of a spare hen this year and it worked a treat. Straight down. But I know you will say well keep doing it but I feel that my hen is far more valuable to me then a dropper. I was just wondering if anyone new where I could purches some? Thank you for all your replies very interesting views Wishing everyone the very best
