East of Scotland homing fanciers are preparing for the opening of the 'old bird' series of races,which begin on saturday,April 29. The races this year are over the East Coast route. and the first race point is Berwick. With the racing season approaching, fanciers are bringing their birds into condition, and local fanciers are looking forward with optimism to the season ahead.in Bonnyrigg Flying Club 23 lofts will be competing I&J Learmouth, winners of the Old Bird Cup last year, and Bryce&Lister, winners of the Young Bird Cup, will be out to retain thetrophies, but they will have strong opposition from Heriot,Burnett&Park; D&J Noble and R Waterson, all of whom were well in the running last year. Among the other members who are capable of spring a surprise are C&D Jones, D Scott&Son, J Chrichton and W Kerr, these fanciers will be challenging strongly,and may be amount the leaders at the finish. Two young members are flying this year - P Mooney and P Cryans jnr. They are up against formidable opposition, but no doudt will be able to give a good account of themselves, and maybe'time in' in the races which they are competing.
