FBB Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Good Morning, one for the geneticists out there.I have 3 young silver blue show racers bred from a silver blue cock and a mealy hen, according to Doug McClary's book , blue cock to mealy hen gives mealy cocks and blue hens.So does the silver gene change this and are my three young birds destined for the show pen or pie crust? Thanks

OLDYELLOW Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 silver blue , surely this is a reduced blue or alternatively called a silver , the silver can reduce the mealy and produce a yellow bar
Guest geordiejen Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 a hen is the colour it is and thats it.a cock can carry 2 colours,so for talking sake if you pair two blues and one or both young are silver then both are hens.there is only 3 main colours in pigeons and ash red is at the top, then blue then brown.the cock bird will only throw dilute onto his daughters.
Guest lambrechts31 Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 I at the moment have a pair in the nest which are a couple of weeks old, 1- light chequed and the other is almost white with small black bits, there parents are blue bar n light cheque, work that one out ??? :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Any sons from this pairing will be mealy, probably with tar splashing.
