Poppy Loft Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 I have a hawthorn tree/bush in garden with red berries and my birds love them! They even fly into it and cling on upside down trying to eat them. Are they safe for them to eat?
Guest bigda Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 not sure but if they are i would make a syrip from them get a large pot boil them down then strain the mix mix in two jellys powder or the rubbery ones, then stir in 2 pots of honey then get jam jars with screw top lids fill them up and keep and use a 1 big spoonful to a 2litre drinker once a week.

Poppy Loft Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 have you ever seen wild birds eating them? if not I would be careful, I havnt to be fair, but they have been doing it for a couple of weeks and all seems well. I tried to stop them at first but short of keeping them in its a losing battle! Cant find anything conclusive on the net.
Wiley Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 How are the droppings? And how have they been doing in the results? Mine eat a lot of dandelions, but the droppings are bang on, and when I notice they do this I expect a good result at the weekend.
billt Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 That's OK, wildlings will eat them later in the year when food is getting short, there must be something in them that the birds love, mine are feeding on cotoneaster berries at the moment

Droppings are fine, Was 1st 2nd and 3rd in last race (26th) Just concerned there may be some sort of toxin that will build up over time That's OK, wildlings will eat them later in the year when food is getting short, there must be something in them that the birds love, mine are feeding on cotoneaster berries at the moment Thanks billt.

If u was 1st,2nd and 3rd the last race, as long as the droppings don't change let them carry on eating them, the rest is BS.
