Do You Think There Is Something Wrong With My Birds?

Could it be mycroplasmosis or ornithoses which cannot be diagnosed by dropping or swab?

Not been funny, But i know what i'm doing when it comes down to feeding them. This isn't my 1st year, I raced last year. Prizing from every single young bird race, Using the same corn and methods that i'm using now. I'm not sure of the price of the corn but it's some what i get from my local corn store with popcorn maize, can't even think of the name of the top of my head.

are your birds motivated enough?

 

what corn you use isnt really a big issue...but how you use that corn is...feeding too much or too little can have an adverse affect!

 

i use the cheapest corn i can get and mix with a decent bag of corn dearest a tenner for 25kg from a farm...and i dont have too bad results.

well and i'm sure the lads will back me up here once ybs start coming well you can't knock them back

now they not coming as well your stumped

have you treated blindly for anything using anti bi-otics?????

personally i'd train them more givng them two's up together and singles this might hone them and make them keener when racing

won both with old and young, and i did better with young birds, Which its the yb season now! i would think they are motivated, and like i said ealier, same method as last year!

i feed a mix of corn with popcorn maize, I used this last year, And prized from 74mile - 195mile So i think i can rule the corn out

maybe your birds just aint good enough ??.i was going to sugest using dog tooth maze or A1 maze instead of popcorn,that said you should still be flying good race from short races which ever maze you use.id be looking at the pigeons rather than managment,give them a chance see how they come rest of the season,if still no good then look for better birds.by the way popcorn maze is ideal for early races but for 180+miles id change it to A1 or dog tooth.good luck

Rob, I'm unsure the last time you raced, but in my opinion a young birds digestive system is very delicate compared to the birds of days gone by, and by feeding such big maize, as maize is the hardest of grains to digest at the best of times, would encourage the birds to hold grains in the crop.

Thanks for your reply's, And i use popcorn maize because they came well on it last year and like i stated before i wasn't planning on changing a good method, And as for the pigeons aren't good enough, who knows? I can only try with them. they are all bred and of good pigeons, so i would think at least one or two should be up for racing.

last time i raced was 2005.that season i raced young birds on gerry plus for 1st 4-5 races then 100% widowhood mix which has A1 or dog tooth maze in it,i used it for last 2-3 races,i won tyne to tweed section feeding young birds widowhood mix,was also the best velocity in the up north combine on that day,this was last yb race bubwith 2005.

Wasn't saying you did was just wondering as antis can cause fungal infection in the crop and that slow your birds down

Again, Thanks for you replies it's good to hear over people opinions, If i mentioned this to many local fanciers, I get the same 'argh there badly' 'they've got yb'

 

Had them on training today, Came like bombs! let the cocks go 1st, Then hens go after, Got the cocks back and the hens 3mins later!

bring back there last feed before the race by 2 or 3 hrs see what happens

Hey, Thank you everyone for advise, This week i saw a great difference in my birds! Sent 10 in one club and 17 in another, In the club i sent 10 in i was 3rd, about 15secs behind the winner! and in the other club i was 2nd, If i'd have got my bird in the clock he would have easy won! I got one on it's own then got 6 together, They came smashing i couldn't have hoped for them to come better! I think it's safe to say that there isn't nothing wrong with them, Maybe they've just been waiting to come onto form!
