Unthanks Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 Hi, all. I'm currently jointly writing a play for submission to BBC Radio based on Charlie Hudson's 1913 achievement in winning the long-distance pigeon race from Rome. Research is always a pain, but it's a necessary evil. I'm working from a number of documents, primarily David Glover's 'Pigeon Racing', but I've come across a question not covered in the book (there may well be more in future weeks). So, I thought I'd address it to a group of enthusiasts. That'll be you. When was wing stamping introduced?
Tony C Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 I think you would be better contacting The British Homing World http://www.rpra.org/british-homing-world/ this weekly magazine has a letters page which would enable you to reach a much bigger audience. Along with your query add your email address and/or phone number. Wing stamping. Asking the question the way you have could be a little confusing. We now wing stamp our pigeons with our contact details on in case the pigeon should get lost and enter another loft. Prior to this wing stamping was used as a way of verifying a pigeon, a series of numbers/letters was stamped on a pigeons wing by a committee just before it left for a race . The owner of the pigeon wouldn't know the sequence of numbers/letters on the pigeons wing until it arrived home.
Unthanks Posted July 24, 2012 Author Report Posted July 24, 2012 Thanks for that, I'll order a copy of the magazine.
THE FIFER Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 You are still welcome to ask questions on site as there are a lot of good fanciers onboard,
