Guest TAMMY_1 Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 Hi all, just wondering what age everyone's yb will be when racing starts? Also i weaned 12 youngens 3 weeks ago and they are flippen well trough the air. But they are well behind the older ones, would they be ok or will they be left behind? Cheersmajority will be 4 months old but we have 2 that are 8 weeks old but they caught up easily and have been on the training tosses with the others so they will race as well
dal2 Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 MIne will be very near 6 months for the majority. Have a couple that will be nearly 10 weeks but will leave them alone but not far short!
Guest darren cantrill Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 i think alot of it has to do with confidence thats for both the pigeon and the man i dont let my youngsters out till they are at least 10 weeks old as when they cant fly properly the sparrow hawk has a bigger chance of taking them i hate doing this as i fall behind with there training but when i raced before it gave the birds a fighting chance if they can fly i dont leave them and keep them under observation at all times once they were up and running normally 4weeks so 14 to 16 weeks im at 15 miles and have to have done at least 20 chucks in all weathers this year my first year back been at little slower cause of the weather but when im confident in them they can go some years its been 16weeks old some years a little longer i feel it depends on how much time you have to spare, the weather is another facter and i like them to get through some single tosses aswell if i was confident they would go a little younger but if you send them and are crossing your fingers and hoping for a little bit of luck to get them back they aint old enough
JohnQuinn Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 My 1st rounders will be 16/18 weeks old my 2nd round about 12/14 weeks old. 3rd round Yb's will go straight to race 3 on our program at around 14weeks.
andrecrock Posted July 5, 2012 Author Report Posted July 5, 2012 I gave me youngins a 8 mile toss today with all birds returning in good shape. There is a couple of them that comes fine from training but will not fly at home, i like giving everything a chance but they are pushing there luck!!! They are the youngest of the lot at 10 weeks old. Just worried they might hold some of the older ones back that wants to go.
