pigeon hut Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 hi every one i am a new starter with pigeons not joined a club as yet.just getting started with huts and birds ready for next year.but have seen and heard a lot about the price of getting pigeons back that have been found up and down the country being about 30 pounds on woulds for each bird.if you have four reported thats a lot out of a working mans wages.who's got a family to support.so understand why lads haved packed up with the cost of corn, petrol for training them before racing.it must put a lot of young people off joining a pigeon club.i have had pigeons come in my loft and phone the owners up about them and was asked to feed and water them and release them which i did some got home and not heard about others would this not be easier to do this.instead of paying 30 pounds a bird.just my way of thinking as i say lads have packed up because of it and lads not joining a club because of it.
PIGEON_MAN Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 This would be the best and cheapest way but it doesnt always work out that easy,if for instance a non fancier gets your bird in it is your duty to get it back as soon as possible which might mean a courier, other times the bird might have a injury that prevents it from flying home again a courier needed,if you start to worry about how much it might cost to get your birds back perhaps pigeon racing is not for you as it certainly is not a cheap sport.
pigeon hut Posted June 14, 2012 Author Report Posted June 14, 2012 you may be right about it not being a cheap sport.it will end up a rich man's game which would be bad as it started as a ordinary man's sport.the older men in the clubs around here kept my cost of starting up down by giving me stock birds and things.which i am very grateful for with the price of buying pigeons off some studs to get started.as they say its the only way to get younger people into the sport by helping them its how they got started with the help of others.
blaz Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 don,t worry about getting birds reported as very very few get reported when lost.
