WulDon Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 (edited) if every fancier in scotland got 'aff there butts' and raised a mere £100 for our sport that would be roughly £50,000 put into the sport of Scottish pigeon racing annually, if this was thought of ten year ago, just think what we coulda done with HALF A MILLION quid! an educated guess suggests that approx. only 5% (if that!) of fanciers in most club/feds actually bother to raise any sort of money for there association, hence the reason we are so far behind in the times when it comes to pigeon transportation, etc! once again just a thought... wee eck Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 I dont know how other members feel, but on this site when one charity appeal finishes another seems to be waiting to take its place,I dont have a problem donating to any charities of my choice. I just feel its getting a bit much everytime you switch on theres someone else handing out the begging bowl. Times are hard for us all in this finacial climate just now. Maybe if we donated a little more into our own problms in the sport It could work to the fanciers advantage. Please dont think I am charity bashing as this is nnot the intent of this post. If you just stick to what your post states and donate to the charities of your choice then i am struggling to see the point you are trying to make :emoticon-0138-thinking: If there are others who enjoy donating / bidding for good causes then that is there choice and long may they continue putting the effort in
just ask me Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 we cant keep all of the people happy all of the time we just try to do our best since there was a problem with a sale few year back ( which was not run by the site) fifer took the decision after literally 100s of posts by the members asking for some action to be taken on further sales the ideas of the members were taken into consideration at the time and Ian was bought on board to run the sales the organisation of the sales has very little to do with mods ian does all the great work of putting the sale together and all that goes with that which is a large amount of work for a few months of the year really after February the whole thing slows down as this is the sales period in the pigeon world there would probably would be be a few sales to build up a account as you suggest davie but as the requests came in it would be impossible to say no unfourtunatly the world we live in most of these charity requests time was not on the persons side as with pauls request with the boy losing his sight and things have to done quickly the only work mods do with with the sales is help update the main page with bids just to help out ian a little hope this clears things up a little

THE FIFER Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 regarding the charities, as said above some great offers you wont get anywhere, also the one BIG thing we need in the pigeon fancy is the general public knowing we exist,as the vast majority dont,or what we do and how important our birds are, most charity sales are to do with the public, one recently on pigeonbasics brought in members of the public and opened their eyes to the pigeon fancy,The news paper reporter couldnt believe how valuable pigeons were and how pigeon fanciers give to help people, this was with the ANNA FLAWS auction, and this was put out to the public in the paper, and I have had a few stop me in the street saying how amazed they were seeing pigeon fanciers doing what they do, so much so that the Hospital Anna Flaws works in got the message as well yes they got together when they new we had another 2 coming up for the young kids, and I received a phone call from ANNA they had a get together and raised £200 for those charities, so pigeonbasics now have the public involved with the pigeon fanciers, yes we are getting a lot now, thats why the charity Moderator Ian McKay has it organised so we dont have 2 going together etc, How do we say NO to general Charities, not easy, the good thing about charities is it voluntarily, no one is asked to donate or buy,but as said above good bargains are there so as well as giving to charity, its helping fanciers as well, Ian Myself and the team are working together to keep all happy, it was mentioned in one of the posts about instead of having so many sales for charity up on site have a fund, AGREE we have been working on this for a few weeks now, thats hopefully our intention, once we get the charities on our list dealt with, pigeon basics have in the past 12 months donated around the £13,000 mark to charities, this I think says a big effort done by the site members and pigeon fanciers helping those in need and letting the public know we care and are a big part of the community and put a lot into it, re the fund yes good idea have a one off sale to get funds as we require them, what we must also remember people are probably on the site who are not pigeon fanciers but had to do with the charities, and see what we do in other ways, well done pigeonbasics members you have done a great job, ADMIN

lenton1163 Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 i think these charity sales are a briliant idea to buy a new pair of pigeons is one thing but to buy pigeons and help sick children at the same time is a great feeling and all those who have been involved in these sales should be very proud of them selves especilly ian who runs these sales i would have donated birds for the sale for the little girl at the moment but my pigeons have been bad and i would not want to cause any harm to anyone else and there pigeons but i will be bidding in these sales so keep up the good work lads atb
JohnQuinn Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 Personally i feel honoured when asked to donate to a charity sale and knowing someone somewhere is going to benefit from it makes the rearing of them less of a burden. The price they fetch is neither hear nor there to me either, though its great if your donation makes £££££££ for the charity concerned, small amounts raised for some lots are what makes up the majority of the eventual donation. As for those critical of the amount of sales being run for charities, i can only say that when my own recent sale was held on Basics the kindness of the members donating to it was overwhelming, i only asked for a SINGLE donation and the rest were given voluntarily. The one member i asked simply didn't want to push himself forward to donate, but was keen to do so. (i was told this by a fellow PB member) This would indicate to me that the Pigeon Basics members are supporting the various good causes because it means a lot to us to help others out, whilst not everyone can donate to, or buy from every auction, we collectively can support many good causes over the year without it adversely affecting the members race teams or Pigeon Basics itself. JMHO.
