Wiley Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Recently read an interview with Warren Foster and he stated he uses "garlic, onions, carrots and all vegetable water from cooking. He also add Ribena to these items and add one cupful to two gallons of water every day." I've used all of the above for many years mainly in the winter months but I've never heard or thought of using ribena. A 288ml cartoon of ribena gives a human his 100% dose of vitamin c for the day. There is much written on vitamin c and pigeons. Food for thought

Vegetable water is an old fashioned remedy used for years to increase your iron intake, so iron must also be present?

Guest IB Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 I don't use multivits, though there are vitamins in Hormoform which I do use. Since vitamins come from 2 main sources, food & microbial action in the gut, multivits are chemical copies of them, manufactured in a lab. Last time I checked, there was no evidence these provided the same benefits that 'real' vitamins do. I much prefer to use vegetable & herb foods in their natural state e.g. green leaves, 2 or 3 times a week. For me, thats the real source of vitamins for my birds. This year my back 'garden' is changing, and there's a small herb & vegetable patch going in. Hopefully the birds will eat just what they need.
