right..i had hexamita years ago and treated it with emtryl..which was successful..yes treat with a canker treatment..proper emtryl is no longer availible over the counter.

the years of having this problem is down to non treatment for the problem...no need to kill!.

so many leave problems to go away by themselves but what they do is sort of hibernate and then re appear.

it is widely thought by vets in the know(pigeon vets) that 7-10 lofts have some sort of strain of salmonela ..maybe not showing but there...believed to be very common in germany.

one problem is that some fanciers leave their birds to suffer because of various fanciers persuading them not to treat because they want natural immunity in their lofts and not propped up by meds.

this is causing more problems then is nesscessary...if you have problems with your birds have their droppings tested..if the droppings show nothing then ask for a further investigation.

i treat my birds to keep them as healthy as possible...but not willy nilly as some so called experts on these sites believe fanciers who use meds do!

in all walks of life you get irresponsible fanciers wether using meds or not.

so to finnish...if you have a problem with your birds ..dont! let it build up before seeking a solution to that problem..namely with a good vet.

Would agree with previous posts if you think there is a real problem with the birds have some tests done ,retford poultry are first class with proper written statement ,Had old stock hen that i thought a lot of once take really ill with terrible droppings, figured by time tests were done she would have died ,so i isolated her and then administered 3 drops of Baytril directly onto her tongue for 3 days ,problem solved she returned to first class health immediately, this must be done with proper dropper from a chemist as baytril cannot be misused .If tests were to come back showing something pretty sinister personally would just dispose of them regardless ,jmo.

Loft cleanliness is a must especially with this type of disease. As previous post stated things can lie dormant and suddenly spring up. ie birds under stress. A clean environment helps greatly to suppress an outbreak.
