thomasd Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Ebay is good for med but i would get test first before giving anything to the pigeons saves you money you may not have worms and your canker and cocci level maybe be low.

Guest IB Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Only use the one, and that's for my PMV vaccine. It's in UK, and I feel safer doing that as most of the stuff from abroad isn't authorised for use here, and could be seized by Customs. Haven't got the cash to risk losing it this way. I also get my birds tested by the local vet, and he prescribes any medication needed, so it's no bother getting the right stuff for my birds.

IanHow good is your local vet for taking samples etc as any we have tried from our area know very little about pigeons.
Guest IB Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 IanHow good is your local vet for taking samples etc as any we have tried from our area know very little about pigeons. I've found him very good over the years, but he's expensive, especially if there is X-Ray or anaesthetic involved, together the costs will be over £100. Frank 123 isn't impressed by him, although it wasn't the man himself he saw, and he also thinks he's very expensive. Speaking to one of my clubmates, (Wallace on here) he saw him, but he's not too impressed either with his knowledge of pigeons - especially when it comes to prescribing meds. Andrew Lawrie is the acknowledged avian veterinary expert though - he lectures once a week at Vet College in Glasgow - and they come to Falkirk from all over to see him. I once bumped into an old workmate there who'd come all the way from West Kilbride (Ayrshire) with her parrot - I asked why she'd come so far and she said that she'd been told he was the avian veterinary expert. Last time I was up, there was an eagle in before me. Andrew showed me the X-Ray - it had an egg inside. The bird had been egg-bound, and he'd managed to get the egg out - unbroken & undamaged, and without surgery.
budgie Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Cheers Ian and thanks for your response.
