apparently they like to hide in nooks and crannys, ive got plenty of them in my loft as its all shiplap.i can get lots of thin ply from work so im going to line the inside of the loft but not sure if it will do any good as they can move around the loft very fast.

Get some duramitex and spray it everywhere inside, it will get rid of them. Red mites aren't something you want sucking the blood out of your birds.

Sure the name of the spray is permethrin?? get it at any farming outlet remove birds from section prior to spraying and let it dry out before returning birds,or let birds bath in a watered down solution of ivermectin sheep drench then qauranteed nothing will live on them or in them .

I think red mite is a loft problem, as the mite don't live on the bird, they only come out from hiding at night to go on the birds to feed, then go back into hiding in nooks and crannies to digest their blood meals during the day.

Original Duramitex loft treatment isn't made anymore, but Harker's have a replacement product which they claim is safer all round to use on the loft.

Also I wouldn't be panelling anything off, that's just encouraging vermin, and basic walls are a lot easier to spray, and these pests would have fewer places to hide.
