rikki Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 last couple of seasons my racing has been curtailed with business commitments, never to be left outof this great sport of ours i decided to breed afew ybs 2009 and select 1 yb to train and race a doddle ,any where i went it came to as far as50 miles on its own raced it to 120 mls, as it was not good in wing decide to stop it, this season it was raced most weeks ,it was my sole entry to the marlbourgh race snfc and duly returned winning region and national prize and being 1st yearling club level, could this be the way forward for beating percy!i have in my club members who race and breed upto 100 ybs and failed to time at this race!
Bluedoo Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Don't know about beating percy, but how many guys actually bother training off line of flight or singling up birds these days.
rikki Posted July 9, 2011 Author Report Posted July 9, 2011 Don't know about beating percy, but how many guys actually bother training off line of flight or singling up birds these days. exactly what i am trying to say !
Guest homestead Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 most of us could not do that as our work is in the same place but its certanly food for thought
rikki Posted July 9, 2011 Author Report Posted July 9, 2011 i do think the building of the confidene of the bird plays a major roll in the making of the birds ability to home ,sometimes sadly over;looked when we all have rely on numbers to time on a weekly basis, where often or not the bird timed can be lost the week after!
big blue bar Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 since i started single tossing the old birds before the racing starts two years ago we have had very good racing and have had low losses . i posted on about single and double tossing to avoid percy attacks earlyer in the year . it seams if u toss a big batch nowadays they always come back split up ending up loosing one or two and some hurt in the bargain .
rikki Posted July 9, 2011 Author Report Posted July 9, 2011 we are very aware that not all ybs will make the grade ,but trying a little bit of single ups seem to be in my book a step in the right direction to proper sckooling,i do believe that more of this type of training was used our losses would be far less!
