I handled a cock a couple of years ago that had won a first prize every year up til he was 10 and he was filling eggs at 16-unbelievable doo,he still handled like a 3 or 4 year old pigeon

yeboah Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 THE BEST CHANNEL BIRD EVER I BRED WAS IN 1973,HER DAM WAS A YEARLING HEN,AND THE SIRE WAS A 16 YEAR OLD COCK,HE WAS DEFINATELY THE SIRE,AS THEY WERE IN A SECTION OF THEIR OWNI have stated all along that some of the finest racers were bred of old birds between 10-15 years of age ,quite simple really if they are still being kept in your loft at that age they are obviously something special and have been bred down from your original proven stock ,if you check the breeding of some of the finest European birds they are mostly all bred from old stock ,breed some wonderful young from an old cock or hen paired to a yearling
kraftykev Posted July 9, 2011 Author Report Posted July 9, 2011 i have just been looking through some pedigree and some of my kirkpatricks i bought from mr g dawes contain a pigeon called lowton supreme he was bred in 1978 and some of his off spring where bred in 1998.
