Brake Pad

Had a nasty experience this morning, wife was going out in the car, Ford Focus, backed accross the yard I opened the gate and she did a hand brake stop saying the brakes have gone, I put my foot on the pedal, straight to the floor, I looked under expecting to see a fluid leak and on the ground was a brake pad, not the metal backing just the pad, 11ml. thick so nearly new, not so bad happening on the yard but frightening to think it could have happened anywhere, I worked as a mechanic for years and never known this before, had plenty worn down to the metal, has really put the wife off driving
