New British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion George Groves says he made James DeGale "run out of ideas" in their grudge match on Saturday night.

Groves earned a narrow majority decision victory after a closely-fought contest with the Olympic gold medallist at the O2 Arena in London.

The 23-year-old put in a more measured display than many expected, often tagging DeGale from distance rather than try and draw him into toe-to-toe exchanges.

And despite the tight scorecards - with one judge calling it even and the other two favouring Groves by a point - the Londoner was always confident of victory.

"We had a

gameplan to go in there and outbox James and outthink James," he told Sky Sports News.

"And I knew that he'd run out of ideas pretty soon, and he did. He was clueless. He resorted to just ploughing forward in the end and it was almost down to me to throw it away.
